Job description

Part Time Days

Summary:
The Nurse Scientist serves as a system-level leader responsible for advancing nursing research, implementation science and clinical inquiry across the organization. This role operationalizes, sustains and evaluates infrastructure that supports nurses at all levels in generating, translating and disseminating nursing knowledge to improve patient outcomes, professional practice and the healthcare system.
The Nurse Scientist works directly with the Manager for Clinical Inquiry to promote a culture of inquiry by mentoring and coaching nurses in Implementation Science and research methods, leading strategically aligned research activities and bridging the gap between research and clinical practice. This role works collaboratively with nursing leadership, interprofessional partners and academic collaborators to ensure nursing practice is grounded in the best available evidence. The Nurse Scientist's work is integrally aligned with nursing strategic and organizational priorities as well as initiatives supporting Magnet® designation, quality, safety and professional excellence.
Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities
1) Nursing Research & Implementation Science Leadership
a. Lead, coordinate, and support nursing-led research and implementation science initiatives aligned with organizational and nursing strategic priorities.
b. Design, implement, and evaluate systems and workflows that support implementation science and nursing research across clinical areas.
c. Serve as a subject matter expert in research methodology, translation science and outcomes evaluation.
2) Mentorship, Coaching and Capacity Building
a. Mentor and coach nurses and nursing leaders in research design, data collection processes, evaluation, dissemination, and sustainability.
b. Provide education and consultation related to nursing research, implementation science and scholarly writing.
3) Scholarly Dissemination & Grant Funding
a. Promote and support dissemination of nursing research findings and implementation science outcomes through abstracts, posters, podium presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
b. Lead or support manuscript development for nursing and interprofessional publications.
c. Identify internal and external funding opportunities and support grant proposal development and submission.
d. Maintain an active program of scholarly activity consistent with organizational priorities as well as professional networks within Akron Children's and external as applicable to promote nursing department's academic growth.
4) All other duties as assigned.
Other information:
Technical Expertise
1. Advanced knowledge of nursing research design, methodology, statistics, and implementation science/EBP frameworks.
2. Successful track record of translating research & evidence into clinical practice within complex healthcare systems and disseminated findings through peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
3. Demonstrated experience in developing, conducting and coordinating single and multi-site research studies.
4. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a matrixed environment.
5. Strong written and verbal skills in communicating research findings and translation science outcomes to diverse audiences.
6. Strong experience as a mentor to novice nursing scholars and an educator to nursing staff.
7. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) or similar software.
8. Proficient in data collection & management, reference management, electronic survey & database development as well as proficient use of data analysis software is preferred.
9. Demonstrated experience in grant writing and funded research portfolio.
10. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and organizational levels.
Education and Experience
1. Education:
a. Required: Doctoral degree (PhD, DNS, DNP with strong research focus) in Nursing or related field.
b. Preferred: PhD in Nursing.
2. Licensure:
a. Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Ohio or
b. Active Multistate RN Licensure through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
3. Certification:
a. Required: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification.
b. Preferred: Certification in Research, EBP or related specialty.
4. Years of relevant experience:
a. Required:
i. Minimum of ten (10) years of nursing experience.
ii. Minimum of five (5) years of research experience in nursing or related field.
b. Preferred:
i. Experience in pediatric nursing.
ii. Demonstrated record of scholarly activity (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, presentations, funded research projects).
5. Years of supervisory experience:
a. Required: None
b. Preferred: Mentoring and leading nurse-led research projects.
