Job description

Job Title: Mainstage Substitute Usher
Job Classification: Seasonal & Part Time. IATSE Local 306 Union Membership Required.
Scheduling: Varies based on performance schedules and FOH needs. Evenings and weekends are regularly required.

Job Overview: Substitute ushers work as part of a team in our customer service-minded environment and assist in our patrons’ experience by ensuring a comfortable and safe experience for all. This position requires strong customer service skills and the ability to partner with management to ensure a smooth front-of-house operation for all Mainstage performances and events. This person will be a public facing representative of City Center and must demonstrate a passion for supporting a great guest experience while upholding City Center’s mission, and our commitment to being an anti-racist organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Welcomes, directs and aids patrons during performances and events.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of theater spaces, policies, programming information, and emergency protocols.
  • Liaises between venue guests, patrons, Directors, Ticket Takers, Ushers, Head Usher, House Management and other New York City Center employees and guests.
  • Assists with seating issues, late arrivals, patrons with mobility issues and mobility equipment, and escalating to Head Usher and/or House Management as needed.
  • Solves customer service issues decisively and elevates to Head Usher and/or House Management, when appropriate.
  • Provides programs and inserts to patrons as assigned.
  • Performs all duties in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining a welcoming, professional, and calm demeanor.
  • Enforces all New York City Center policies in collaboration with the Head Usher, House Manager, and New York City Center management.
