What is a part time HR?

Part-time HR jobs are human resources positions that require employees to work fewer hours than a typical full-time schedule, often ranging from 10 to 30 hours per week. These roles can include responsibilities such as recruitment, onboarding, payroll processing, employee relations, and benefits administration. Part-time HR professionals may work for small businesses, nonprofits, or larger companies needing flexible staffing. This arrangement allows for work-life balance and can be ideal for individuals seeking reduced hours or flexibility. Part-time HR roles may also serve as entry points for those looking to build a career in human resources.

How does a part time HR professional typically collaborate with other departments to support organizational goals?

Part-time HR professionals often work closely with department managers and team leads to address staffing needs, facilitate onboarding, and resolve employee concerns, even within limited hours. They may schedule regular check-ins, provide guidance on HR policies, and coordinate with payroll or benefits teams to ensure smooth operations. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are key, as part-time HR staff must prioritize tasks and maximize their impact in a condensed work schedule.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time HR professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time HR professional, you need a solid understanding of HR principles, employment law, and recruitment practices, often supported by a degree in HR or a related field. Familiarity with HRIS systems, payroll software, and applicant tracking systems is typically required. Strong communication, organizational skills, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion are valuable soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure effective support for employees and compliance with regulations, even within limited working hours.

Generally, these positions may be less stressful than full-time roles due to reduced hours, but they still require strong communication and organizational skills. • Skill training, one-on-one technical coaching, and ongoing development through Great Clips University (GCU)

  • A team environment where stylists help each other succeed, with opportunities to grow if you want more hours in the future
  • Exclusive discounts on professional salon tools and products
  • Innovative salon technology - like Online Check-In and the Great Clips App - that helps take care of the busy work so you can focus on what you love most: delivering great haircuts
  • Consistent income you can count on - without upselling pressure, commission stress, or competition for walk-ins

Employee offerings like medical benefits and paid time off (PTO) may be available at certain locations.

  • A valid Cosmetology or Barber License (requirements vary by state/province)

  • A desire to listen and make a difference through excellent customer service and genuine connections
  • A team-oriented attitude and desire to contribute to a great team culture

About Great Clips

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Great Clips, Inc. was established in Minneapolis, Minnesota by founders David Rubenzer and Steve Lemmon in 1982, a time when most people received haircuts in one of three ways: in full-service hair salons, from barbershops or at home. As a stylist and businessman, David could see that the industry was changing. Customers were looking for a hair salon service that could fit their busy lifestyles and desire for value. To be part of that change – rather than find themselves competing with it – David and Steve developed the then-radical concept of a walk-in haircare salon with weekend and evening hours, offering customers a select list of services, and providing benefits for stylists. After the founders opened several successful hair salons, Ray Barton joined David and Steve as an owner in March 1983. With Ray's help and expertise in franchising, the trio set about growing the Great Clips hair salon brand. That success continues through today.
