Grounds & Maintenance Technician


Reports To: Maintenance & Grounds Manager and Facilities Director
Supervises: None (Non-supervisory position)
Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

The Landscape and Grounds Technician takes care of the outside maintenance duties, which include: supplying the daily water to the tennis courts, leaf blowing, general landscaping (lawn maintenance, tree trimming, yearly flower planting, mulching, etc.), and general tennis court maintenance. Additionally, he/she will make outdoor and indoor general repairs to the clubhouse and the other buildings (electrical, carpentry, plumbing, irrigation, etc.), pest control, boat dock maintenance, and make other repairs as assigned by the Landscape and grounds Manager, Facilities Director or Assistant Facilities Director.

Position Characteristics:

A successful Landscape and Grounds Technician possess excellent maintenance repair skills, including building and carpentry, irrigation and landscaping expertise.


Essential Job Functions: *including but not limited to*

- Receives direction from the Landscape and Grounds Manager in order to maintain the Club - including the Main Club House, Tennis Center, Tennis Courts, Pool, Lawns, Grounds, and Marina

- Make sure the tennis courts are supplied with water on a daily basis and that the soft courts are swept and rolled

- Remove all trash and leaves off the tennis courts; maintain the courts as necessary (fix nets, wind screens, etc.)

- Make sure the parking lot areas are cleaned and maintained daily (leaf blowing and trash removal, curb, wheel blocks and rock wall repairs)

- Maintain the boat dock area; ensure that it is clean and make all necessary repairs

- Take care of the landscaping (grass cutting, yearly planting, mulching, tree trimming, irrigation systems, etc.)

- Make all required inside and outside repairs to buildings and equipment (electrical, carpentry, plumbing, etc.)

- Make sure the inside of the facilities are cleaned (general janitorial maintenance) as needed

- Knowledge of building structures with skill and capability of building maintenance and repairs

- Good time-management abilities to coordinate schedules

- Knowledge of maintenance and operational requirements of building systems and components

- Knowledge of methods, techniques, tools, and materials used in general building maintenance

- Knowledge of safe work practices, state and local building codes, and industry accepted maintenance and construction procedures

- Knowledge of cleaning methods and keeping of all supplies, and equipment


Additional Responsibilities and Job Requirements:

- Help everywhere as needed making various repairs (outdoor & indoor maintenance)

- Leaf blowing and lawn mowing and general landscape work (tree trimming, mulching, weeding, planting flowers, spreading fertilizer, digging, picking up trash and debris, cleaning spider webs at the Marina, etc.)

- Painting, scrubbing, power/pressure washing, sanding/grinding, and some light masonry, plumbing, and carpentry work

- Ability to use power tools and personally own some tools

- Repair and move furniture, perform tennis court and chain link fence repairs

- Climb a 30 ft. extension ladder and climb scaffolding; make pool deck repairs

- Stand and walk for long periods of time

- Drive and operate golf carts

- Attend meetings

- Be organized, responsible, and courteous with all patrons and staff

- Ability to work on-call evenings, weekends, and holidays; have a flexible schedule

- Have your own transportation; be punctual


Preferred Education and/or Experience:

Previous general indoor/outdoor maintenance and repair experience.


Appearance and Grooming:

All employees are required to follow the guidelines set forth by the associate handbook regarding proper workplace appearance. Employees must adhere to their departmentโ€™s specific uniform requirements. Must wear uniform and follow etiquette standards.


Language Skills:

Prefer bilingual โ€“ fluent in English and Spanish. Must be able to understand and follow written and verbal instruction in English and/or Spanish.


Reasoning Abilities:

Must be team oriented and have good customer service skills.


Physical Demands:

Ability to work in heat and cold for extended periods of time and perform the following duties:

--standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time;

--bending, reaching, stooping, and pushing;

--climbing;

--lifting and carrying;

--operating assigned equipment (i.e. company vehicles, golf carts, and power tools)

Ability to maintain effective auditory and visual perception needed for:

Skilled in carpentry, painting, electrical, masonry, concrete, and plumbing

Skilled in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and equipment and general building equipment

Skilled in safe operation procedures with knowledge of maintenance of equipment


Work Environment:

Tasks are performed with exposure to diverse environmental conditions. Requires manual labor and routinely lifting 50 lbs. or more. Able to work outside in extreme temperatures.
