Black Warrior โ€“ Tombigbee Waterway Project (Tuscaloosa AL)

R&D Maintenance Services, Inc. provides operations and maintenance services on U.S Army Corps of Engineers projects throughout the southeast - since 1980. We are the Operations and Maintenance Contractor for the Black Warrior โ€“ Tombigbee Waterway Project providing machinery and facility maintenance and repair on several hundred miles of waterway, multiple recreations areas, and 9 locks/dams/spillways on the system. R&D is an EEO Employer.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Performs in a variety of situations including grounds maintenance, facility cleaning and litter removal, and trail and road maintenance. Assists with a variety of trades and craft duties involving maintenance, repair and improvement of equipment, facilities, roads, fences, utility systems, etc. May work individually or as member of a crew. Maintenance work performed assisting a skilled craftsperson. Entry Level positions with growth opportunity based on performance, skills, and knowledge.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operate hand and powered lawn/grounds equipment.
  • Cleans facilities, restrooms, and showers; removes trash and refuse.
  • Plants and/or maintains grass, flowers, trees and shrubs.
  • Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Repairs and paints fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails and outbuildings.
  • Performs or assists with lifting, positioning and securing of material and work pieces during installation.
  • Performs minor maintenance & cleaning activities for tools and equipment.
  • Maintains a clean work area.
  • Works indoor and outdoor assignments. May also be required to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Participates in the R&D Safety and Quality Control Programs and upholds safety and quality requirements.
  • Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Must be able to use and operate hand tools (rakes, brooms, hoes, etc.), power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in grounds and facilities maintenance.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; push; pull; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; and crouch.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and ability to exert physical effort to perform moderate to heavy work, involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, lifting, pushing and pulling.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception - either naturally or with the aid of eye glasses or contacts.
  • Flexible attitude and willingness to assist various trades/crafts when necessary.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions. You must be able to communicate efficiently and clearly with co-workers and supervisors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
  • 1-3 year of verifiable work experience in grounds and/or facility maintenance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Must have valid Driver's License.
  • Required to successfully complete background check, motor vehicle record heck, and drug/alcohol screenings.
