Job Description:This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Intramural Sports Official (Flag Football) positions for Recreational Sports at Oregon State University (OSU).
The Intramural Sports Official reports to the Sport Programs professional staff and plays a key role in delivering high-quality recreational sport experiences. Officials are responsible for officiating a variety of Intramural Sports leagues and events, demonstrating sport-specific knowledge, sound judgment, and consistent rule enforcement.
This position supports the Sport Programs Mission Statement: to engage the university community in diverse sport and program opportunities that enrich the student learning experience through involvement, leadership, and physical activity.
Anticipated Hourly Rate: $17.96
Common sports needing officials include:
Fall Term: Flag Football, Volleyball, Wheelchair Basketball, Soccer
Winter Term: Basketball, Water Polo, Inner Tube Water Polo, Flag Football, Soccer
Spring Term: Softball, Kickball, Soccer

Position Duties
Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of sport rules and Intramural Sports policies, applying them consistently and fairly.
Enforce and interpret sport rules while exercising sound judgment and professionalism in dynamic environments.
Utilize critical thinking and conflict management skills to respond to challenging situations and de-escalate disputes effectively.
Manage participants and teams in collaboration with Sport Program Associates, demonstrating teamwork and leadership, including:
Ensuring completion of team rosters and waivers
Monitoring and maintaining crowd control
Facilitating directions and court/field assignments for officials, teams, and participants
Communicate clearly and respectfully with Intramural Sports participants regarding rules, policies, procedures, and program information.
Complete required documentation and paperwork accurately and efficiently using department systems and technology.
Assist with facility preparation and clean-up to ensure safe and functional activity spaces.
Communicate injuries, safety concerns, suggestions, and operational issues to appropriate staff in a timely and professional manner.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support program operations and team success.

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by theOffice of International Services(OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of Sport Programs offerings with the ability to officiate or prior officiating experience.
Ability to provide positive, consistent customer service through strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated problem-solving, conflict management, and critical thinking abilities, including effective oral and written communication.
Awareness of safety considerations, risk management practices, and emergency response procedures.
