Position Overview
This position involves providing daily meals for senior citizens and patrons at the Robert "Bob" Harrison Senior Wellness and Advocacy Center following the guidelines set by TARCOG (Area Agency on Aging). This position also requires the employee to administer and lead all aspects of the free daily lunch program including but not limited to receiving inventory, tracking inventory, preparing meals, serving meals, preparing all reports associated with the program, and maintaining accurate records and all other actions necessary to maintain program compliance under the supervision of the Food Manager. Helps to maintain established standards of sanitation, safety, and food preparation/storage as set by the local health department. Maintain Health Department records and food service records/files.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Performs all responsibilities as needed with the nutrition program
  • Ensures all meals connected to the free daily lunch program are prepared and served in compliance with program regulations
  • Prepares complete meals to include observing meals, seasonings meals and placing meals in food warmer devices
  • Can accurately read and record food temperatures for daily meals
  • Secures necessary items used in preparation of food for cooking
  • Assists in serving food as required
  • Cleans kitchen and kitchen equipment after meals have been prepared and served; stores and handles food properly; ensures floors are uncluttered, clean and safe; ensures facility meets all health code requirements; assists and maintains food inventory
  • Prioritizes kitchen responsibilities over assisting staff and patrons in other areas of the Bob Harrison Center; treat staff, patrons, volunteers and work release laborers with respect
  • Counts and records daily donations
  • Prepares and deposits donations to the bank on a weekly basis; submits item delivery tickets from food vendor weekly
  • Prepares end of month lunch reports (logs)
  • Presents monthly nutrition education to clients
  • Attends quarterly Center Manager meetings and training sessions for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to maintain compliance
  • Completes participant enrollment forms and generates number given by the State of Alabama enrollment program to the monthly lunch report (log)
  • Communicates with Madison County Nutrition Coordinator on a weekly basis
  • Is knowledgeable about the State of Alabama's Elderly Nutrition Program
  • Drives county vehicle to pick up supplies or deliver meals, packages, etc
  • Performs all other related work as necessary

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Must be able to pass drug screening
  • Experience working with the public and seniors preferred
  • Experience working with senior programs preferred

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
  • Ability to maintain high standard of personal cleanliness and food sanitation
  • Working knowledge of use and adaptabilities of various pieces of cooking equipment used in commercial or institutional kitchens
  • Working knowledge of proper and required food temperature and ability to accurately read and record temperatures
  • Knowledge of the guidelines set by the State of Alabama, the AAA in Madison County
  • Knowledge of basic computer and spreadsheet applications (Microsoft Word & Excel)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior citizens
