Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and creative Part-Time Creative Fabricator Assistant to join our church creative team. In this role, you will assist in the build of special event elements, custom stage props, scenic pieces that visually support the weekly message and thematic series. This is a hands-on position perfect for someone who loves turning creative ideas into reality using a wide variety of tools and materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and fabricate custom stage scenery, large-scale props, backdrops, and thematic elements that align with the weekly sermon series or special events.
  • Work with a variety of materials including wood, foam, fabric, metal, paint, plastics, and other specialty materials to create durable, visually compelling pieces.
  • Safely operate specialty tools, commercial equipment, and power tools (table saws, routers, hot wire cutters, paint sprayers, etc.) in a workshop setting.
  • Assist in the fabrication process from initial concept and sketching through construction, finishing, installation, and strike/teardown of props.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment while adhering to all safety protocols and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot design and construction challenges creatively and efficiently, often working within tight timelines and budget constraints.
  • Assist with the installation and removal of stage elements before and after services or events.
  • Help source materials and manage inventory of fabrication supplies.
  • Participate in occasional load-in/load-out for special events or seasonal productions.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proficiency with power tools, and hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret sketches or verbal creative direction.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with a strong eye for visual design.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
