GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The Part-time Parks Laborer will be responsible for a variety of maintenance and construction projects for landscaped areas of City public grounds, parks, cemetery, and golf course.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participates in the mowing, trimming, spraying for weed control, and irrigation of public grounds.
  • Cuts grass and trims weeds on City property.
  • Clean buildings, wash windows, and empties trash bins.
  • Digs flower beds and plants flowers.
  • Paints benches and playground equipment.
  • Repair, maintain, stock, and clean restrooms.
  • Trim trees and bushes City wide.
  • Perform general maintenance of all equipment.
  • Clean and maintain ball fields.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS
  • Work independently and exercise initiative and judgment in the planning and execution of tasks assigned.

DEPARTMENT SPEFICIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CEMETERY
  • Remove dead and artificial flowers, containers, and plastic keepsakes from gravesites.
  • Level and maintain gravesites.
  • Maintain fencing by repair or replacement.
GOLF COURSE
  • Operate mowers and string trimmers trimming greens, aprons, tees, fence line, banks and hillsides; edge cart paths, edges, rake and maintain sand bunkers.
  • Set tee markers and cups on the greens daily, maintain ball washer, replace tee towels and flags when needed, remove debris, sand and seed tee and drop area divots, and clean flower beds.
  • Sprays chemical on landscaped areas.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Previous parks, grounds, cemetery, and golf maintenance preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the operation maintenance and repair of lawn mowers, tractors, and all other equipment used in parks, grounds, cemetery, and golf operations.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions with limited supervision.
  • Ability to meet and deal with the public in an effective and courteous manner.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Frequent sitting may involve walking or standing.
  • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Hold and grip objects.
  • Occasional periods of sitting in a vehicle.
  • Exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
  • Acceptable Physical Capacity Profile test results are required.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION
