Job description

The Indiana University Center for Global Health (CGLH) is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of immigrant and refugee communities in Indianapolis by leveraging its global partnerships and the process of reciprocal innovation.
Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Moderates groups of 15-20 pregnant and post-partum women over the course of 13 months.
  • Delivers a standard curriculum that covers health, financial, and social topics.
  • Completes 2 home visits per participant.
  • Records programmatic and individual data as needed. Follows up with participants who have low attendance and make referrals as needed.
  • Implements community-based group sessions with program participants. Each group will meet 3 times per month: 2 sessions will be in person for 2 hours each, and one session will be remote for no more than 1 hour.
  • Enrolls eligible participants who have been referred, communicating and scheduling group sessions with participants, facilitating group sessions using the program curriculum, documenting key program metrics, following up with people who have less than 70% attendance, making referrals to other social services, and creating a supportive and respectful group dynamic.
  • Groups will already be recruited and convened, and CGLH will organize locations, referral pathways, and additional wrap-around services. Will provide training and orientation at the beginning of employment, supportive supervision, and peer support calls throughout.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • 1 year of experience, if the candidate has a Doula or Community Health Worker certification.
  • 3 years of experience working in maternal or child health, health education, health outreach, or social service delivery can be substituted for the required certification.
Preferred
  • Experience working with immigrant communities, the challenges they face, and their sources of resilience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
  • Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
SKILLS
Required
  • Fluent in English
  • Professional proficiency in one of the following languages: Spanish, Haitian Creole, a Chin language, or other languages
Preferred
  • Experience in group facilitation techniques
  • Experience with pregnancy and/or the post-partum period. (personal, volunteer, or professional experience)
Working Conditions / Demands
This position requires the ability to drive to meetings throughout Marion County, Indiana
Additional Information
These Part-Time Community Health Workers will provide program support over 13 months.
We are seeking 2 -4 hires.
This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
