Job description

THIS PART-TIME ROLE WITH THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT IS 19.5 HOURS PER WEEK, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY WITH A VARYING SCHEDULE. NON-BENEFIT ELIGIBLE EXCEPT FOR PERSONAL AND SICK TIME. 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under direct supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation, incumbent performs general clerical work for the department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Compiles, computes, copies, and files records and reports.
  2. Processes invoices for payment.
  3. Processes and routes incoming and outgoing mail.
  4. Contributes to a respectful and safe work environment by fostering a culture of positive communication and ethical behavior, with an emphasis on providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.

OTHER DUTIES:

  1. May interact with the public in person or by telephone and provide information relating to services, programs, and resources.
  2. May collects fees and prepare reconciliation and deposits.
  3. May maintain inventory of materials and supplies.
  4. Performs other duties as required.

  • Maintains confidentiality of records and information as appropriate

  • Observes safe work practices
  • Represents the Town in a professional and courteous manner at all times

DEPENDABILITY:

  • Regularly attends and is punctual for work
  • Works a flexible schedule as needed

QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:

  • Knowledge of clerical duties and office procedures
  • Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff members and provide friendly customer service to the public
  • Ability to create and maintain records, and organize data in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to learn department specific software applications

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Typically the employee may sit comfortably to do the work.  However, there may be some walking, standing, stooping, reaching, and carrying items such as papers, books, or files  
  • Must be able to push/pull/lift objects of less than twenty (20) pounds and sit for prolonged periods.  Able to perform manipulative skills which require hand-eye coordination such as keyboard skills
  • Must be able to see objects closely as in reading and typing a document
  • Must be able to hear normal sounds with background noise, distinguish voice patterns and communicate with speech as in using a telephone
  • Ability to perform such tasks as typing, filing, computer work and using a calculator

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years’ clerical experience

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:

  • None
