The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County was the first museum in L.A. to open its doors 111 years ago and is poised for an exciting new era as it plans for the future. Having recently completed a new strategic framework, the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles Countyโ€”including NHMLA at Exposition Park, La Brea Tar Pits and museum in mid-Wilshire, and the William S. The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking an Audio-Visual Technician for our Exhibitions department. The Audio-Visual Technician works closely with the Technical Director for performing Audio-Visual coordination and assists with set up and breakdown of program and event areas at the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.


Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordination of AudioยญVisual Requests: Schedules and coordinates the activities and projectยญ work duties of staff and contract staff for events, meetings and programs requesting audioยญ visual services, as well as for departmental projects.

  • Vendor Relations: Establishes relationships with audioยญvisual and lighting equipment vendors to get service or equipment quotes for contract workers, purchases or equipment rentals, both locally and nationally.

  • AudioยญVisual Installation Coordination: Coordinates the setยญup and design, operation and strike of audioยญvisual equipment and special effect lighting. Assigns schedules and project ยญwork duties to AudioยญVisual Technicians for events, meetings and programs requesting audioยญvisual services.

  • Video Coverage: Shoots live multiple camera video of events. Broadcasts live video feeds during events.

  • Events: Sets up the technical AV equipment for events as needed.

  • Meeting SetยญUp: Sets ยญup and breaks down tables and chairs for Museum and special events.

This position has the following requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required

  • Position requires two years of experience in the operation, installation and repair of audioยญvisual equipment and systems.

Hourly range for this position is $23.32 plus excellent benefits. NHMLAC, in good faith, believes that this posted rate of compensation is the accurate range for this role at this location at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individualโ€™s relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and applicable laws. This is a part-time temporary regular, non-exempt position.
