Job description

Visual Arts Instructor

Primary Purpose

The Visual Arts Instructoris responsible forplanning and delivering engaging visual arts instruction that fosters creativity, artistic skill development, and self-expression in students ranging from age 6 through high school. The instructor will provide age-appropriate education in a variety of visual art disciplines, including creative painting, drawing, cartooning, comic book illustration, and digital art using Procreate, while supporting the mission and values of the Fine Arts Association.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement creative and educational visual arts curriculum for students ages 6 through high school.

  • Teach a variety of visual arts disciplines, including painting, drawing, cartooning, comic book creation, character design, and digital illustration using Procreate.

  • Adapt instructional methods and projects to meet the developmental needs and skill levels of diverse learners.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment that promotes creativity, confidence, and artistic exploration.

  • Demonstrate artistic techniques and provide constructive feedback to support student growth and achievement.

  • Prepare lesson plans, organize materials, andmaintaina clean, safe, and well-equipped classroom and studio environment.

  • Supervise students during classes, workshops, camps, exhibitions, andspecial eventsto ensure safety andappropriate behavior.

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, guardians, and Fine Arts Association staffregardingprogram expectations and student progress, whenappropriate.

  • Assistin the planning and presentation of student artwork for exhibits,showcases, and community events.

  • Maintain attendance records and other documentation as required by the Fine Arts Association.

  • Participate in staff meetings,trainings, and professional development opportunities as requested.

  • Support the mission, values, policies, and procedures of the Fine Arts Association.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, Illustration, Graphic Design, Digital Arts, or a related field preferred.

  • Previousexperience teaching visual arts to children and adolescentsrequired.

  • Demonstratedproficiencyin traditional visual arts techniques, including drawing and painting.

  • Experience orproficiencyin cartooning, comic book illustration, and character design preferred.

  • Experience using Procreate and digital illustration tools preferred.

  • Ability to engage and motivate students of varying ages, abilities, and artistic backgrounds.

  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and move for extended periods during classes and events.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and set up art supplies and equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.

  • Ability to engage in physical activity consistent with instructional interventions.

  • Fine motor skills sufficient todemonstrateartistic techniques and utilize digital art tools and equipment.

  • Work is performed in a combination of classroom, studio, and community-based settings.

  • Exposure to moderate noise levels associated with studio equipment and group activities.
