Job description

The Douglas Family Early Childhood Center of Sinai Akiba Academy, a Sinai Temple school, is looking for experienced, dedicated early childhood educators to join our substitute teaching team. This on-call, non-exempt position involves working with a supportive and talented team of diverse teachers in a fun, warm, creative and nurturing environment for children ages 18 months to 5 years old. DFECC substitute teachers work with a classroom teaching team to facilitate learning experiences aligned with the school's mission and values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with other teachers to provide enriching play and learning activities for children
  • Help with the setup and cleanup of all classroom activities
  • Assist with classroom tasks, including diaper changing, outdoor play supervision, snack and lunch setup, etc.
  • Maintain an inviting environment through daily cleanup of the outdoor yard spaces
  • Work with other teachers to ensure the safety of children
  • Provide supervision and support for DFECC students throughout range of daily activities as directed by the DFECC Director, DFECC Associate Director, Head of School, or designee
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide enriching play and learning activities for children
  • Follow SAA's licensing protocols
  • Embrace and model Sinai Akiba's mission statement and Core Values

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

  • A minimum of 12-semester units in Child Development/ECE, including core courses of Child Growth & Development, Child, Family & Community, and Curriculum
  • Availability to work in person, part-time, full or partial days as-needed between the hours of 7:45am - 3:30pm
  • Support the DFECC/Sinai Akiba mission/vision and commit to helping move DFECC towards that vision
  • Must understand how to facilitate play-based learning and support children's healthy social and emotional development
  • Must support an attitude that every child has the ability and opportunity to succeed in all areas
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must pass DOJ/FBI background check
  • Must complete California Mandated Reporter Training within 90 days of start date (renewed every 2 years)

PREFERRED:

  • AA (or higher) degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education
  • Experience in an early childhood education classroom setting
  • Knowledge of Jewish customs, rituals, holidays, etc., or openness to learning about them
  • Up-to-date pediatric CPR and first aid certification
