POSITION: Custodian (Part-Time)
HOURS: Afternoons, Monday - Friday
SUPERVISOR: Maintenance Director / Principal
POSITION GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalency
Certification: N/A
Experience: Demonstrates aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities and physically able to perform the task-related responsibilities required for position.
Criminal Record Check: Required per NH RSA 189:13-a
Pre-Employment Medical Exam: Required per NH RSA 200:36 and 275:3
EVALUATION: Performance of position responsibilities will be evaluated annually in accordance with the approved administrative procedure for staff evaluation.
GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  2. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  4. Duties of position requires frequent stooping, kneeling, squatting, reaching above head and forward, use hand strength to grasp and climb ladders, twist or bend neck or trunk more than the average person, occasionally lift or move up to 90 pounds such as salt or bulk furniture.
  5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  6. Knowledge of methods, materials, and electrically powered equipment used in custodial activities.
  7. Knowledge of basic sanitation and safety practices related to custodial activities.
  8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
  2. Shovels, plows, and sands walkways, steps, driveways, and parking areas as appropriate.
  3. Checks daily to ensure that exit doors are locked and unlocked at designated times and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
  4. Mops, sweeps, vacuums assigned areas daily.
  5. Disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans sanitary and drinking fountains daily.
  6. Maintains appearance of all windows, walls, and doors, on a daily basis.
  7. Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
  8. Performs yard keeping, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
  9. Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
  10. Reports major repairs needed promptly to Maintenance Supervisor.
  11. Reports immediately to the Maintenance Supervisor any damage to school property.
  12. Conducts on-going program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
  13. Assists the Maintenance Supervisor in moving furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by Principal.
  14. Available for call-back in the event of problems within the building, to substitute for absent custodial staff, or open/close the building on weekends.
  15. Cleans gym floor and replaces fluorescent lamps when needed, cleans tops of lockers, washes floors in the kitchen and cafeteria area.
  16. Assists the Maintenance Supervisor in setting up for school assemblies and other public meetings.
  17. Assists the Maintenance Supervisor in restocking disposable items and maintaining an inventory of usage.
  18. Maintains an on-going inventory of teaching supplies and distributes as requested by Principal.
  19. Disinfects toilets and bathroom floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures in assigned areas.
  20. Regulates heat and ventilation systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
  21. Raises the United States flag at or before 8:00 am on each school day.
  22. Assumes responsibility for the opening of the building each school day.
  23. Assumes responsibility for the closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
  24. Ensures the security of the building by checking all exits and setting the alarm prior to leaving.
  25. Maintain the highest standards of professionalism.
  26. Demonstrate positive work habits by showing initiative, cooperation, dependability, efficiency, and productivity.
  27. Follow the guidelines of confidentiality as established by the school district.
  28. Attend and participate in relevant training sessions, meetings, professional growth activities as requested/required.
  29. Perform in a professional manner when interacting with students, parents, faculty, administration, and co-workers.
