Principle Purpose of Job


The host/hostess is responsible for controlling reservations, taking phone calls for Heck's or Ranch House Restaurants at Devil's Thumb Ranch and seating guests. The host/hostess is the initial contact with the guests and the first person to start guests off with a positive experience. In addition, as a Devil's Thumb Ranch host/hostess, you will be assuming the role of tour guide, communicator, decision-maker, entertainer, curator and rancher (at heart).
*Please note that this role may involve placements in Heck's Tavern, Ranch House Restaurant, Volario's, Cafe Giocondo, or on our Banquets team. Our collaborative environment aims to provide growth opportunities for all employees, and while preferences are welcome, placements will be based on operational needs and skill sets. You may indicate your preferences in your application notes or during your first interview. We appreciate your understanding and interest in joining our team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Welcome guests to the venue.
  • Provide accurate wait times and monitor waiting lists.
  • Manage reservations.
  • Escort customers to assigned dining or bar areas.
  • Provide menus and announce Waiter/Waitress's name.
  • Greet customers upon their departure.
  • Coordinate with wait staff about available seating options.
  • Maintain a clean reception area.
  • Cater to guests who require extra attention (e.g. children, elderly).
  • Answer incoming calls and address customers' queries.
  • Assist wait staff as needed.

Requirements

 Personal Attributes/Experience: 

  • Previous experience as a restaurant role preferred.
  • Demonstrated reliability and dependability in previous work experiences.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with guests and colleagues.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Positive attitude, teamwork mindset, and willingness to contribute to a collaborative work environment.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe) is a plus.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform repetitive tasks and lift/carry moderate weights (20-30 lbs).

Due to the nature of our 24-hour operation, there is no guaranteed work schedule. Managers will try to accommodate specific schedule requests, but they are never guaranteed if business volume prohibits.
