SALARY RANGE: 35.31 - 54.73HOURLY
General Summary:
Under general supervision the Pulmonary Function Respiratory Therapist will perform Pulmonary-function, lung-capacity, diffusion capacity, and blood-and-oxygen tests to gather data for use by physician in diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary disorders: Confers with patient in treatment room to explain test procedures. Explains specified methods of breathing to patient and conducts pulmonary-function tests, such as helium dilution and pulmonary mechanics, arterial blood gas analyses, and lung-capacity tests, such as vital capacity and maximum breathing capacity tests, using spirometer or other equipment. Measures exhaled air, using various analyzers. Observes and records readings on metering devices of analysis and conveys findings of tests and analyses to physician for interpretation. Also, may perform blood analysis tests to measure such factors as oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, hemoglobin saturation and levels, and pH of blood, using blood gas analyzer.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform calibration and oversee PFT lab equipment and testing, prior to use on first patient daily. Maintain and troubleshoot all PFT and EPOC equipment. Ensure PFT's are performed as per department policy. Verifies physician orders prior to performing therapy.
2. Documents all information accurately in electronic medical records or patient's paper chart. Notify appropriate medical personnel of any adverse reactions. Provide education on patient's current respiratory modality.
3. Maintains a completed patient file and send study to medical records for scanning. Edits PFT for interpreting physician and send results to ordering physician.
4. Assist with development and implementation of PFT policies in accordance with ATS standards. Demonstrate effective time management and accommodate unforeseen circumstances while maintaining a high standard of quality, service and professionalism.
5. Accurately charge all PFT patients for the appropriate therapy, by the end of each shift and send all physician billing reports every Monday morning. Review daily respiratory charges and documentation for completeness and accuracy every 3 days. Notify the respiratory therapist and manager of any missing documentation and changes within 5 days.
6. Follows all regulatory procedures in regards to cleaning equipment and respiratory environment; documents all safety issues on safety variance report; perform all quality control and maintenance procedures with accurate documentation.
7. Maintains good communication with the entire patient care team. Support internal and external communication and collaborative working relationships. Keep communication open with management team.
8. Attends out of 12 departmental meetings. Actively participate and contributes to departmental in-services/ meetings. Take responsibility for content presented at all staff meetings.
9. Maintains current state licensure and Bayhealth mandated yearly requirements. Maintain current BLS and ACLS certification. Maintain current CPFT or RPFT.
10. Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness of the department and within the scope and range of the job responsibilities. Follow all standard and guidance outlined by Bayhealth policy.
11. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
