Position Overview
The Production Manager is the key point of contact for all customers of the panel shop and is responsible for ensuring seamless communication between customers, the Shop Foreman, and internal departments. This role oversees production scheduling, workflow management, quality assurance, staff supervision, and continuous improvement initiatives to deliver projects on time, within scope, and at the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Customer & Project Communication
- Serve as the primary liaison between customers and the panel shop.
- Provide timely updates on project status, schedules, progress, and technical inquiries.
- Manage and distribute project documentation in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
Production Scheduling & Tracking
- Maintain and manage the official production schedule with input from other departments.
- Track project milestones, including start dates, completion dates, and shipping schedules.
- Assign job numbers and cost centers, ensuring accurate data entry into company systems.
Shop Operations & Process Improvement
- Partner with the Shop Foreman to streamline workflow, resource allocation, and efficiency.
- Maintain and enhance shop systems to support consistent performance.
- Monitor and enforce quality assurance processes to meet UL508A, UL698A, and other standards.
- Identify and implement process improvements to optimize production output.
Staffing & Team Leadership
- Manage shop employees, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Schedule staff effectively to meet production demands.
- Conduct employee evaluations and maintain accurate performance records.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all projects meet company standards for safety, quality, and workmanship.
- Enforce compliance with UL standards, NEC, NFPA, and company safety policies.
Skills & Competencies
- Proven leadership, organizational, and project management abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for customer and employee relations.
- Proficiency in production scheduling tools, databases, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of UL508A / UL698A standards and compliance practices (preferred).
- Problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
Qualifications
- Experience in production management, manufacturing, or electrical panel building.
- Supervisory experience in a manufacturing or technical environment.
- Familiarity with industrial control panels, electrical standards, and UL compliance (strongly preferred).
