Job description

Senior Controls Engineer


As part of the Duckworth Controls Group, you will be an integral part of our team, serving
customers who are automotive manufacturers and their suppliers.

Our Controls Group designs, builds, and integrates controls systems for automotive paint
process systems.

The Senior Controls Engineer will be responsible for controls system
development and integration, while also serving as a team leader when necessary.

10+ years of controls design and commissioning experience is required.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Review customer specifications and scope of work to gain a thorough understanding of the project requirements
  • Complete project documentation (internal and customer)
  • Design new and / or modify existing controls systems (hardware and software)
  • Complete calculations (heat, power, voltage drop, etc.)
  • Obtain customer approval of the new / modified designs
  • Specify, obtain customer approval, and purchase materials and components
  • Coordinate tasks with other Engineers and support personnel
  • Coordinate with Project Management
  • Perform field checks
  • Coordinate with the panel shop to build electrical assemblies and panels
  • Panel shop validation
  • Installation support
  • Field commissioning and validation (De-bug, internal validation, customer validation, start-up and stand-by)
  • System as built documentation
  • Internal and external training
  • Work with Project Management on bulletin and field order estimates

Candidate must be:

  • Focused on safety
  • A self-starter and problem solver who can perform with a minimum amount of supervision, pay attention to details, and be organized
  • Knowledgeable regarding national electrical codes and controls standards (NEC, NFPA, etc.), lockout-tagout, and automotive (assembly plant) industry standards
  • Mechanically inclined and be able to analyze mechanical systems to provide a controls solution
  • Able to communicate effectively, work well with others, and be customer focused.
  • Able to monitor the budget and schedule while maintaining quality
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally when required
  • Able to work overtime when required to maintain the schedule
