Shape precision from code to chip

Step into a day where your programming decisions drive quality and throughput on sophisticated multi-axis CNC lathes. You’ll kick off by reviewing customer specs, models, and drawings, then translate them into efficient CAM toolpaths. As parts move from virtual simulation to machine prove-out, you’ll refine strategies, collaborate across teams, and lock in repeatable processes that hit both tolerance and takt.

Day-in-the-life
  • Translate blueprints, CAD models, GD&T, and customer requirements into robust CNC programs for multi-axis turning centers.
  • Use CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Esprit, GibbsCAM, NX, or similar) to create new part programs and revise existing ones as needed.
  • Engineer machining strategies that cut cycle time while preserving tool life and surface finish.
  • Select tooling, inserts, workholding, and cutting parameters to match materials and geometry.
  • Prove out programs at the machine, debug issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, and Production to ensure every part meets stringent quality standards.
  • Support first-piece inspections and refine setups and methods to reduce scrap and downtime.
  • Document programs, setups, and process notes for clean handoffs and repeatability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and development of manufacturing processes.
What you bring
  • 5+ years of CNC programming experience with emphasis on CNC turning.
  • Hands-on programming of CNC lathes using CAM software such as Mastercam, Esprit, GibbsCAM, NX, or comparable tools.
  • Fluency in G-code, tooling selection, feeds/speeds, and machining fundamentals.
  • Background with multi-axis lathes; familiarity with live tooling and Y-axis machining is preferred.
  • Ability to read/interpret blueprints and apply GD&T.
  • Experience machining tight-tolerance parts in a precision manufacturing setting.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
