Panel Shop Manager Job Location: Sacramento, California Job Type: Direct Hire Pay Rate: $90,000 - $110,000/Year Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8am-5pm Description of Position: Our client is seeking an experienced and driven Panel Shop Manager to oversee daily operations, scheduling, quality, and productivity within our panel fabrication shop. This leadership role is responsible for managing shop personnel, supporting Lead Panel Builders, coordinating with engineering and project teams, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in industrial control panel fabrication along with proven leadership, planning, and operational management skills. Job Responsibilities: Estimating & Cost Control
  • Lead panel estimating efforts in partnership with the bid coordinator and engineering team
  • Validate project scope, labor, materials, and project risk
  • Manage workforce planning, scheduling, and labor allocation
  • Monitor project budgets, labor utilization, and overall shop performance
Departmental Management
  • Lead, coach, and develop Panel Shop personnel and Lead Panel Builders
  • Support employee development, onboarding, and training initiatives
  • Establish productivity goals, quality expectations, and accountability standards
  • Ensure on time delivery of panel shop projects
  • Participate in project estimation, planning, testing, and manufacturing coordination
Collaboration & Compliance
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and cross functional teams to establish project requirements and timelines
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies
  • Assist with developing inspection, testing, and quality control procedures
  • Work closely with engineering teams on drawing standards and panel testing processes
Shop Maintenance & Safety
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Conduct regular shop safety inspections and address hazards promptly
  • Train employees on safety procedures and best practices
  • Enforce safety policies and ensure compliance with all regulations
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork
Experience Required:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience
  • Strong understanding of: Electronic schematics, one-line diagrams, control drawings and panel layouts, PLC systems, VFDs, relays/contractors
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities
  • Familiarity with quality standards, compliance requirements, and industry best practices
