Job description

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the development and implementation of advanced packaging solutions that meet the needs of our client’s diverse product lines. This role requires a deep understanding of packaging materials, processes, equipment, and technologies, as well as a commitment to sustainability and cost-effectiveness. The Packaging Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, marketing, and manufacturing, to ensure that all packaging solutions are innovative, functional, and aligned with the company's strategic goals.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Create complex calculations to determine size and quantity of packaging equipment required based on project production goals.
  • Develop process flow diagrams, P&ID’s, and equipment layouts to meet customer specifications, throughput rates and sales goals; ensure designs and layouts conform to specifications, code requirements, and food safety requirements.
  • Responsible for creating or obtaining Packaging Specifications; Materials, Rates, Sizes, OEE, Compliance.
  • Develop specifications for packaging equipment and installation.
  • Assist in estimating equipment costs (design and material) for specified process, seek alternative methods that may reduce cost, review activities to ensure design stays within budget.
  • Coordinates with 3rd party engineering, architectural, OEM, and client resources.
  • Troubleshoot new and existing packaging line issues involving equipment, controls, designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Provide on-site project support to assist in accurate packaging equipment installation, startup and commissioning.
  • Commit to sustainability and cost-effectiveness in all packaging solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, internal and external, including project management, engineering, design, product development, marketing, and manufacturing.
  • Ensure all packaging solutions are innovative, functional, and aligned with company strategic goals

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of packaging materials, processes, and technologies.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and/or other design tools, 3D software a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Experience in AutoCAD 2D or a 3D design software is preferred.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and standards.
Travel Requirements:
  • Ability to travel regularly for site visits, attend project meetings, corporate training, and events.
  • Ability to travel internationally, obtain and maintain a valid passport.
  • Travel expected to be at least 25%.
  • Flexibility to travel on short notice for urgent business needs.
