Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. The Packaging Manager manages a team of packaging engineers who design packaging material for manufacturing organizations.

What You Will Do:

  • This position will be responsible for managing a team of packaging engineers who develop returnable and expendable packaging solutions for strategic, innovative, sometimes complex, and network-wide projects and processes.

  • Lead or support team in solving complex technical problems, work with cross-functional team to develop process and tools, as well as mentor, coach and share packaging design and processes to global and regional team members for replication and/or improvement

  • Help design and follow global packaging processes and promote packaging technology systems to regional packaging and customer groups.

  • Report and upload data/information to enterprise packaging system.

  • Prioritize the workload of global resources in support of domestic onsite engineers

  • This position will need to communicate to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units as they support global teams to develop packaging documentation.


What You Have (Basic Requirements):

  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

  • Performance Management: Knowledge of successful performance management techniques; ability to apply organization's performance management system, practices, and tools to developing and improving individual, team, and organizational performance.

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

  • Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application, or operation.

  • Packaging: Knowledge of packaging tools, approaches and practices; ability to package products and components safely and attractively.


What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or higher, preferably in engineering or supply chain

  • Prior experience in Packaging, Transportation, Supply Chain, or Operations

  • Experience leading research and development of new packaging technology and material

  • Experience developing and deploying creative / original solutions to complex problems either personally or through direct reports

  • Experience working and communicating with a variety of clients and suppliers

  • Certifications: APICS, CSCMP, etc.

  • Lean and 6 Sigma Black Belt

  • Manufacturing Engineering, Logistic Management, Product Group / Management Experience, New Product Introduction (NPI/NSI)

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00
