Job description

Starrett-Bytewise Measurement Systems is an industry leader in designing and building precision, laser-based, non-contact measurement equipment. Starrett-Bytewise is seeking a candidate with expertise in Software Engineering. The candidate will be working as part of a small team of developers responsible for the creation and maintenance C#, C++ and Rust applications. The ideal candidate will have fundamental knowledge of signal processing, linear algebra, a general passion for programming and a willingness to relocate to Columbus, GA.Programming:
  • Specify, design, write, troubleshoot, test and document software
  • Maintain software that interacts with physical systems like GigE cameras, PLCs, motors, ethernet interfaces, limit switches and other industrial components
  • Work as a member of a team: pair programming, rubber ducking, reviewing changes and brainstorming
  • Work with mathematical kernels, implement filters, transform point clouds, process raw images
  • Work on large datasets efficiently; planning for garbage collection/allocation/copy
  • Document code, write/update requirements, implement installers, write instructions
Field Service Support:
  • Be the subject-matter expert for certain software and provide phone and internet based support to other Starrett-Bytewise employees who are working at customer locations using this specific software.
  • Must be able to work varied pre-arranged hours, including nights and weekends, as required by customers or other Starrett-Bytewise employees. This would occur on an infrequent basis.
  • Must be willing to travel to customer locations as needed to provide support
Administration:
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license and passport.
  • Excellent spoken and written English is required, other language skill is beneficial.
Work Environment:
Job will almost always be performed in an office environment. Occasionally, this job will
require work in our production workshop and infrequently at a customer's manufacturing facility. The characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position.   • While performing duties of this job, it will frequently be required to maintain a stationary position and operate a computer for programming.

  • When at a customer's site, must be able to move through an industrial facility, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Must be able to have manual dexterity to operate equipment and tools required on the job.
Candidates should have at least one year experience in C#/C++/Rust, the desire to learn and apply new technologies, and enthusiasm for solving technical challenges. Qualified candidates will have strong problem solving, multi-tasking, inter-personal, organization, time management, and communication skills. Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work in the United States and will be required to provide proof of employment eligibility at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship for this position is not available.
Education: B.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent discipline. Demonstrable competence is acceptable in place of a degree.
Salary: $75,000 - $85,000 annually
Benefits: Includes 401k with employer matching, health and disability insurance plan, profit sharing, etc.
Travel: Up to 10% throughout the U.S. and worldwide including infrequent overnight travel with rare extended trips up to a few weeks.
