Job description

Overview

Overnight Shift Supervisor

The Shift Supervisor supports daily operations at a shelter by ensuring client services run smoothly, safely, and on time. Working under the Operations Coordinator, they supervise activities, manage schedules, oversee facility safety and cleanliness, and conduct safety checks such as fire drills and substance use screenings. They also help coordinate transportation, track client appointments, and ensure staff follow all health, safety, and privacy rules.  

Candidates who do not have a current FDNY-80 (F-80) certificate, must be able to obtain it within 90 days of hire and be open to getting CPR and food handling certifications as needed. 

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the overall shelter environment to ensure rules are followed, the space remains safe and clean, and positive interactions are maintained.

  • Conduct regular safety and room checks, lead fire drills and evacuations, and step in to monitor kitchen and food prep if food service staff are unavailable.

  • Manage the daily schedule of activities, making sure all client services and events happen as planned, and that participants and staff are where they need to be.

  • Oversee client appointments by reviewing schedules, dispatching vehicles, distributing carfare, and assigning escorts as needed.

  • Administer breathalyzer tests or observe urine collection when required by program policy and monitor clients returning from outside appointments.

  • Ensure all paperwork is accurate and complete, and maintain compliance with confidentiality and privacy regulations, including 42 CFR and HIPAA. 

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in human services, preferably with individuals experiencing homelessness or substance use issues.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain FDNY F-80 Certificate of Fitness within 90 days of hire.
  • Willing to obtain CPR and NYC Food Handler's certifications, as needed.
  • Flexible and available to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
  • Approaches sensitive situations with empathy, discretion, and professionalism. 

Additional Information 

This is a full-time non-exempt role with an hourly rate of $19.32 (annualized at 35 hours a week to $35,178) with a full benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 25 days of paid time off, access to a retirement account with an employer to match, and tuition reimbursement. The compensation offered for this role is dependent on experience and credentials. 

This role is located in Jamaica, Queens and has a regular schedule of Friday-Tuesday 12am-8am.
