General Mechanic – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Location: East Brunswick, NJ
Shift: Third Shift (10:15 PM – 6:15 AM)
Pay Rate: $28.00–$30.00 per hour (Depending on Experience)

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and experienced General Mechanic to join our maintenance team in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production equipment and facility systems to ensure safe and efficient operations. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills, experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment, and the ability to respond quickly to equipment issues during the overnight shift.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on manufacturing and packaging equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues.
  • Repair and replace worn or damaged machine components.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify potential equipment failures before they occur.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
  • Maintain facility equipment, including conveyors, pumps, compressors, motors, and other mechanical systems.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, blueprints, and maintenance documentation.
  • Complete maintenance work orders and accurately document repairs performed.
  • Follow all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), OSHA, and company safety procedures.
  • Keep maintenance tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized.
  • Communicate equipment concerns and maintenance updates with supervisors and production teams.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment (pharmaceutical, food, or packaging experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, motors, conveyors, and gearboxes.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting experience is preferred.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments safely.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and equipment manuals.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Comfortable working independently on an overnight shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand, bend, and walk for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environment.
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
  • Technical certification in industrial maintenance or a related field is a plus.
