Job description

Position Summary:

Auburn Community Hospital is seeking a dedicated Nocturnist Physician to provide high-quality inpatient care during overnight shifts. This role is responsible for managing unassigned patients, supporting the Emergency Care Unit, and collaborating with primary care providers and the hospitalist team to ensure continuity, safety, and excellence in patient care.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient medical care during overnight hours.
  • Admit and manage patients from the Emergency Care Unit, including all unassigned patients.
  • Perform consultations and provide cross-coverage for hospitalized patients.
  • Deliver care in coordination with patients’ primary care physicians per established agreements.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation, clinical decision-making, and continuity of care.
  • Coordinate discharge planning and arrange necessary follow-up care.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, specialists, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

Qualifications:                   

  • MD or DO degree required
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal Medicine (or equivalent)
  • Eligible for or currently holding an unrestricted New York State medical license
  • DEA certification (or ability to obtain prior to start)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain medical staff privileges at Auburn Memorial Hospital
  • Eligible to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans
  • Strong clinical, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently in an overnight hospital setting
