Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Origination, the Director of Origination will play a critical leadership role in commercializing TerraForm's development pipeline and operating portfolio across utility-scale renewable assets. This individual will own the end-to-end origination and execution of offtake transactions, including structuring, negotiating, and closing Power Purchase Agreements and other commercial arrangements with utilities, municipalities, and corporate partners.
The role sits at the intersection of market strategy, project development, and transaction execution and requires deep market knowledge, strong commercial judgment, and the ability to lead complex cross-functional processes. The Director will be a key contributor to offtake origination strategy, pricing discipline, and portfolio monetization decisions, while building and maintaining long-term relationships with customers and stakeholders that provide the foundation of our projects. Final strategic and investment approvals will be held by the Vice President of Origination and senior leadership.
Responsibilities
  • Commercial Origination & Transaction Execution

    • PPA Negotiation: Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of long- and short-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with utilities, municipalities, and C&I customers.
    • Market Strategy: Develop and implement commercial strategies to monetize development assets and repowered projects within the existing fleet.
    • Offtake Transactions: Drive transactions with counterparties for the sale of development assets and manage all aspects of the business deal to ensure transaction risks are underwritten.
    • M&A Transactions: Support transactions with project counterparties for the opportunistic acquisition or divestiture of development assets
    • Risk Mitigation: Coordinate with the Commercial Optimization team to manage risks including basis, price, volumetric, and other hedging/offtake strategies.
    • Deliver measurable commercial outcomes, including contracted megawatts, revenue generation, and pricing performance relative to market benchmarks.

  • Project Development & Market Strategy

    • Provide critical, market-driven feedback to the Greenfield and Asset Development teams to ensure site selection, product offering, and timing aligns with offtaker demand and pricing trends.
    • Financial Viability: Evaluate project economics, including capex, interconnection costs, and other financial assumptions to inform target pricing and maximize risk-adjusted returns.
    • Monitor market fundamentals, regulatory developments, and competitive dynamics to inform overall origination strategy

  • Stakeholder Management & Multidisciplinary Leadership

    • Cross-Functional Liaison: Act as the primary lead between internal Development, Operations, Finance, and Legal teams, as well as third-party specialists.
    • Due Diligence: Coordinate internal and external due diligence to ensure proper analysis and investment decision-making.
    • Executive Reporting: Prepare and present clear, concise updates to senior leadership on deal status, project milestones, and financial outcomes.
    • Compliance: Ensure all project activities comply with technical, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements
  • 7-10+ years of experience in power offtake origination, commercialization, or energy markets within an independent power producer, developer, utility, banks .
  • Demonstrated experience leading renewable energy PPA negotiations and executing complex commercial transactions in the renewable energy sector within the past few years.
  • Strong understanding of power markets, offtake structures, and project-level economics.
  • Experience in supporting or evaluating M&A transactions, asset sales, or portfolio acquisitions is a plus.
  • Bachelor's Degree is a requirement. MBA is preferred.
  • Position is based on team located primarily in NYC & Charlottesville
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Compensation: $190,000-$210,000 USD, bonus eligible
