Director of Financial Planning
  • Base Salary: $140,000 – $170,000+ + 20% Incentive Compensation Bonus (Paid in March)
Location
  • Tempe, AZ - Hybrid Schedule – 4 Days In Office / Remote Fridays
Position Overview

A growing wealth management platform is seeking a Director of Financial Planning to serve as a senior planning resource supporting a large network of financial advisors and high-net-worth clientele. This individual will partner closely with financial advisors and clients to deliver sophisticated financial planning strategies while helping to lead and rebuild the organization’s Advanced Planning function.

The ideal candidate possesses deep financial planning expertise, strong presentation and relationship management skills, and the ability to develop comprehensive financial plans across investment, tax, estate, retirement, insurance, and wealth transfer strategies. This role requires a highly proactive professional who can independently lead projects, influence advisor adoption, improve planning processes, and contribute strategic thought leadership across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner directly with financial advisors and clients to develop customized financial planning strategies
  • Construct comprehensive financial plans using advanced planning software and modeling tools
  • Identify planning opportunities related to:
    • Investments
    • Tax optimization
    • Estate planning
    • Retirement income
    • Insurance and risk management
  • Deliver presentations and recommendations to advisors, investors, and stakeholders, translating complex planning concepts into actionable strategies
  • Provide ongoing consultation and planning support to financial advisors across a large advisor network
Leadership & Strategic Initiatives
  • Mentor financial planners and junior team members
  • Lead special projects supporting the strategic initiatives of the Advanced Planning department
  • Drive process improvements, planning frameworks, and service delivery enhancements
  • Support the rebuild and expansion of the planning division through advisor engagement and operational leadership
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with leadership teams on strategic initiatives and implementation efforts
Technology & Planning Innovation
  • Maintain ownership of the planning technology stack and recommend new planning tools and enhancements
  • Utilize platforms such as:

    • eMoney
    • RightCapital
    • Holistiplan
  • Develop advanced Excel models for scenario analysis and planning projections
  • Stay current on emerging planning technologies, AI developments, and industry trends
Educational Content & Thought Leadership
  • Prepare educational content including:

    • Advisor training materials
  • Attend conferences, events, and advisor engagement opportunities
  • Support advisor adoption of planning services and departmental initiatives
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of financial planning experience
  • CFP certification required
  • Strong experience supporting High‑Net‑Worth (HNW) and Ultra‑High‑Net‑Worth (UHNW) clientele preferred
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Financial planning
    • Investment strategies
    • Tax planning

  • Strong presentation and communication skills with ability to engage directly with advisors and clients
