Full Time Position

Salary Range:  $90,000 - $100,000

Position Summary:

The Regional School District Energy Manager is responsible for analyzing and optimizing energy use across school operations to reduce energy costs, improve efficiency and enhance sustainability. This role involves tracking energy use, identifying and implementing energy-saving strategies, and fostering a culture of energy efficiency within the school district. The Energy Manager works collaboratively with administrators, staff and external partners to achieve energy goals aligned with the district's policies and strategic plan.


Roles and Responsibilities

1. Energy Management and Analysis

  • Track and analyze energy consumption data to identify trends, anomalies, inefficiencies.
  • Develop and implement energy-saving initiatives, including operational changes and facility upgrades. Evaluate efficacy of implemented energy projects and strategies through data collection and reporting.
  • Track and analyze renewable energy generation and battery storage activity.
  • Track and analyze EV charger activity and costs for Level 3 electric school bus chargers and Level 2 chargers.
  • Manage energy data reporting, including state requirements.

2. Project Development and Coordination

  • Collaborate with facilities team to identify and oversee energy efficiency projects, including HVAC upgrades, lighting retrofits, weatherization, vehicle electrification and renewable energy installations. Prepare cost-benefit analyses and ROI assessments for proposed measures.
  • Serve as primary liaison with utility providers, renewable energy and battery storage vendors, contractors, energy consultants.
  • Research, pursue, and secure grants, rebates and funding opportunities to support energy conservation, energy efficiency, electrification.
  • Track progress on electrification and decarbonization goals.

3. Education and Advocacy

  • Provide regular updates to the leadership team and School Committee on energy performance and cost savings.
  • Lead district-wide campaigns with staff and student outreach to build awareness about energy efficiency and sustainability.
  • Offer support for student Green Teams through engagement with activities related to energy conservation, efficiency, renewable energy.

4. Policy and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal energy regulations and sustainability guidelines.
  • Assist in developing and enforcing district energy policies and standards.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies, best practices and opportunities in energy conservation, building science, renewable energy, electrification. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with Excel Sheets and other data management programs.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Strong time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks, motivate others, and adjust workload as needed in a team environment.
  • Highly effective, professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starting, with a strong work ethic, flexible and open to change and able to work in a group or independently.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Planning, Engineering, Construction, Architecture, Environmental Planning, Building Maintenance, Public Administration, Business, or related field, and 12 years of relevant experience. 2+ years relevant experience preferred. Certified Energy Manager accreditation is a plus.
