The Role

Blue Owl is seeking a Principal, Operations Technology Systems to lead technology strategy, development, and execution across our Operations organization, including Investor Operations, Investment Operations, and Reporting & Analytics.

This leader will partner closely with business stakeholders to define requirements, design and implement solutions, oversee testing, and manage the delivery of strategic technology initiatives. The successful candidate will build and lead a high-performing technology team while driving innovation across operational platforms, data ecosystems, and AI-enabled capabilities.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on technology leader who combines strong technical expertise with business acumen, intellectual curiosity, and a results-oriented mindset. This individual should be comfortable rolling up their sleeves, challenging the status quo, and driving the best possible solutions while balancing timelines, priorities, and business requirements.

Experience with modern AI technologies-including coding assistants, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Snowflake Cortex, and related tools-is highly desirable.

This role reports directly to Robert Lee, Chief Technology Officer.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as the technology leader for Blue Owl's Operations organization, including Investment Operations, Investor Operations, and Reporting & Analytics.
  • Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for operations technology platforms and data capabilities.
  • Drive innovation across financial technology systems, including OMS, EMS, PMS, reporting, and data platforms.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and thought leader to business stakeholders, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and operational controls.
  • Balance strategic initiatives with tactical business needs, making thoughtful trade-offs as necessary.

Business Partnership & Analysis

  • Partner with stakeholders to define business requirements, project scope, objectives, and success criteria.
  • Conduct strategic business analysis to ensure initiatives align with broader business and technology objectives.
  • Build consensus among stakeholders and facilitate decision-making across cross-functional teams.
  • Translate complex business requirements into clear technical solutions and delivery plans.
  • Serve as a data steward, leveraging data insights to improve decision-making, governance, and operational effectiveness.

Technology Delivery & Operations

  • Lead system implementations, integrations, enhancements, and ongoing platform support.
  • Own the global delivery roadmap, including strategic initiatives, BAU activities, support priorities, and project milestones.
  • Create and manage project plans, ensuring stakeholders are informed of timelines, risks, and dependencies.
  • Oversee status reporting, issue management, escalation processes, and resolution of technology-related challenges.
  • Ensure the successful design, development, implementation, and support of technology solutions.
  • Partner with developers and infrastructure teams to establish architecture standards and technology roadmaps.
  • Manage external vendors and consulting resources to ensure successful and timely project delivery.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for system issues, coordinating with internal teams and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve incidents.
  • Build and support reporting solutions using proprietary and third-party platforms.

Process Improvement & Governance

  • Establish and maintain standards, controls, and governance frameworks across operations technology.
  • Continuously assess systems, processes, and procedures to identify opportunities for automation, optimization, and standardization.
  • Evaluate technology solutions through build-versus-buy analyses and vendor assessments.
  • Prototype and pilot new technologies to accelerate time-to-market and business value realization.
  • Drive operational efficiency and process optimization through effective use of AI-enabled tools and automation

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in a hands-on technology leadership role within a private equity, alternative asset management, or broader financial services organization.
  • Proven track record leading cross-functional technology initiatives from concept through implementation and support.
  • Demonstrated experience managing onshore and offshore teams across software development, QA, data engineering, and business analysis.
  • Strong project management experience with ownership of multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities while maintaining attention to detail and execution quality.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with business leaders, technical teams, and executive management.
  • Experience delivering mission-critical technology platforms in highly regulated and data-intensive environments.
  • Deep understanding of Agile software development methodologies and enterprise system integration patterns.

Technical Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on software development experience.
  • Proficiency in:
    • Python
    • C#
    • .NET
    • Node.js
    • Angular and/or React
    • Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with API integrations, web services, ETL processes, and enterprise application architecture.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development and productivity platforms, including:
    • Microsoft Copilot
    • Claude
    • Snowflake Cortex
    • Other emerging AI technologies

Experience with one or more of the following platforms and technologies is highly desirable:
