Job description

Location: Austin, TX (Office: 1714 Fort View Rd / Truck Yard: 8008 S Congress Ave)

Schedule: Monday – Saturday (Morning Dispatch & Live Operations Oversight)

Base Salary: $65,000 – $68,000 starting base (Step-up to $75,000 base after 90 days based on performance)

On-Target Earnings (OTE): $80,000 – $92,000+ (Base + Performance Bonuses + Revenue Share)

Benefits: Subsidized Health, Dental & Vision Insurance, Paid Holidays, $30/week Gas Allowance

About the Role

We are seeking a high-accountability, system-driven Operations Manager to lead our daily moving and logistics operations in Austin, TX. In this role, you will own morning dispatch, live route tracking, crew reliability, quality control, and fleet inventory management.

Your core mandate is operational efficiency and team reliability. We schedule daily backup movers (1–2 on-site every morning) to ensure our schedule runs smoothly. Stepping onto a truck as a mover is considered a system failure; your job is to recruit, onboard, and manage a reliable crew so every truck leaves fully staffed without you doing manual labor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Crew Reliability & Recruitment (Primary Metric): Build and maintain a deep bench of reliable movers and drivers. Conduct weekly in-person interviews and onboard high-quality talent to eliminate short-staffing.
  • Backup Crew Management: Manage daily morning backup movers (1–2 on-site daily) to fill last-minute call-outs or no-shows before trucks leave the yard.
  • Morning Dispatch & Truck Readiness: Lead daily morning meetings, verify truck readiness (equipment, pads, tools, materials), conduct pre-trip inspections, and ensure all crews dispatch on time.
  • Live Operations Oversight: Monitor live job pacing, transit routes, and driver safety using Samsara. Address delays, site access issues, and operational bottlenecks in real time.
  • Quality Control & Accountability: Perform unannounced field QC visits on at least 50% of monthly jobs to inspect padding, packing, safety compliance, and professional standards. Enforce attendance and performance policies.
  • Fleet & Inventory Control: Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules, tool bag audits, box/cab cleanliness, fueling compliance (prior to 8:45 AM), and material inventory reordering.
  • Customer De-escalation & Damage Claims: Act as the primary escalation point for day-of customer issues, manage damage claims to keep them under 1% of revenue, and drive a 5-star review culture.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Proven Operational Leadership: 3+ years managing teams, logistics, or field operations in moving, delivery, home services, or fast-paced logistics.
  • Recruiting & Staff Management Skills: Ability to hire, train, coach, and hold field crews accountable to high performance standards.
  • High Stress Tolerance & Problem-Solving: Cool-headed under pressure, decisive, and focused on proactive solutions rather than excuses.
  • Tech & Systems Proficiency: Comfortable with GPS tracking tools (Samsara), dispatch software (SmartMoving), and Google Workspace.
  • Valid Driver’s License: Clean driving record required.

Compensation & Performance Bonuses

  • Starting Base Salary: $65,000 – $68,000/year.
  • 90-Day Step-Up Base: Automatic bump to $75,000/year base upon hitting 90-day targets (95%+ crew reliability, zero manager truck-coverage instances, and labor costs held under 26%).
  • Staffing & Operational Efficiency Bonus: Quarterly performance bonus for maintaining 100% route coverage without manager field intervention.
  • Labor Efficiency Bonus: $100/month bonus for keeping direct labor expenses at or below target (26%).
  • Damage Claim Bonus: $150/month bonus for keeping total claims under 1% of monthly revenue.
  • 5-Star Review Bonuses: Tiered monthly bonuses ($50 to $1,000/month) based on customer review volume and ratings.
  • Weekly Revenue Share: 0.25% of completed weekly revenue (projected $2,500 – $4,250+/year).
  • Benefits Package: Health, dental, and vision insurance subsidies, $30/week gas allowance, and 6 paid holidays.
