Description

The City of Stockbridge believes that people are the most valuable asset in delivering services to all citizens. Stockbridge is a diverse city of approximately 38,000 + residents located just 15 minutes south of Hartsfield- Jackson International Airport.
The Operations Supervisor for an amphitheater is a critical, hands-on leadership role responsible for the successful execution of events and the daily operational readiness of the venue. They report to the General Manager or Operations Manager
Class Characteristics: This is a full-time, exempt classification that requires evening and some weekend work
Requirements
Major Duties:
Event Execution and Oversight
  • Show Day Management: Work directly with the General Manager/Operations Manager, and various department heads (Security, Production, Food & Beverage) to perform day-of-show duties and ensure a seamless event flow.
  • Set-up and Breakdown: Supervise all activities related to facility conversion, event preparation, set-up (staging, seating, etc.), and post-event breakdown and cleanup.
  • Operational Readiness: Perform opening, running, and closing duties according to venue policy, ensuring the facility is always clean, safe, and "show ready."
  • VIP/Premium Services: Coordinate and execute operations for VIP programs, premium seating areas, and special guest activations to ensure exceptional experience for high-profile guests.

Staff Management and Leadership
  • Supervision and Direction: Directly supervise and manage event day staff, assigning duties during shifts and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Training and Mentoring: Assist in the training, education, and counseling of event staff, particularly regarding guest service standards and safety protocols.
  • Communication: Lead pre-shift meetings, relay information from management to crew members, and foster a positive, safe, and professional work environment.
  • Compliance: Monitor and enforce adherence to company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety regulations, and responsible alcohol service guidelines.

Guest Experience and Issue Resolution
  • Customer Service: Maintain high standards of customer service, circulate through the venue to maintain atmosphere control, and proactively identify guest needs.
  • Inquiry and Complaint Handling: Respond to all elevated guest inquiries, concerns, and complaints (e.g., security or customer service issues), working with management to resolve them quickly and effectively.
  • Incident Response: Respond to and complete necessary reports for all incidents, accidents, injuries, and security-related situations.

Facility and Logistical Support
  • Maintenance Liaison: Inspect equipment and venue areas, communicating the need for repairs, replacements, or maintenance to the Operations Manager.
  • Inventory Control: Assist with maintaining and controlling high-volume inventory, particularly in food and beverage, and ensure accurate cash-handling procedures are followed.
  • Supply Management: Manage the distribution of essential tools, such as keys and radios, and ensure the proper equipment is available for all event-related tasks.

Knowledge Required by the Position:
โ€ข Experience: Previous experience (typically 2-3 years) in a supervisory role within event operations, live music, theater, hospitality, or a similar high-volume, fast-paced venue.
โ€ข Leadership and Teamwork: Proven leadership abilities with a focus on motivating staff and fostering a collaborative team culture.
โ€ข Problem-Solving: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make quick, informed decisions and resolve unexpected issues under pressure.
โ€ข Attention to Detail: Acute attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and complex event logistics simultaneously.
โ€ข Availability: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
โ€ข Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for prolonged periods, walk long distances, and lift or move up to 40-50 pounds.
โ€ข Knowledge: Working knowledge of venue operations, guest relations, safety/security, and responsible alcohol service.
Supervisory Controls: The work in this position is performed under the general supervision of the General Manager.
Guidelines: Guidelines include City and departmental manuals, policies and procedures.
Mobility & Movement:
โ€ข Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time, especially during concerts and outdoor events (often 6-12 hours on event days).
โ€ข Frequently move about the amphitheater, including navigating stairs, ramps, backstage areas, and uneven outdoor surfaces.
Lifting & Carrying:
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25-50 pounds when handling event materials, equipment, signage, or supplies.

Environmental Conditions:
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, or humidity, as events are frequently outdoors.
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to loud noise from amplified sound and large crowds during concerts.

Communication & Coordination:
  • Must be able to hear, speak, and communicate clearly in a high-noise environment using radios and other communication devices.
  • Must maintain awareness and visibility in low-light conditions at nighttime events.

Manual Dexterity & Technology Use:
  • Regular use of computers, phones, radios, tablets, and office equipment is required.
  • Must be able to input data, access digital systems, and complete administrative tasks.

Work Hours:
  • Ability to work long, irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, especially during event season or back-to-back show days.
