The Opportunity

The People Operations & Compliance Manager role is a hybrid position based in Austin, TX that reports to the Chief People Officer.

The People Operations and Compliance Manager is responsible for maintaining compliant, efficient, and employee-friendly HR operations across the organization. This role ensures the company meets all applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements while also owning core people operations processes, systems, and documentation. The role partners closely with leaders across the business to reduce risk, strengthen process quality, and support a consistent employee experience.

You are responsible for:

HR Compliance & Policy Management

  • Maintaining and updating HR policies, handbooks, and procedures to align with current employment laws and internal practices.
  • Monitoring federal, state, and local employment compliance requirements and translating changes into actionable internal practices.
  • Owning HR compliance audits, documentation reviews, and corrective action tracking.
  • Serving as the primary internal resource for HR policy interpretation and operational compliance questions.

People Operations

  • Managing employee lifecycle processes including onboarding, job changes, offboarding, and personnel file maintenance.
  • Overseeing HRIS data integrity, reporting, and process improvements across people operations workflows.
  • Preparing reports, metrics, and documentation for leadership and audits.
  • Recommending and implementing process improvements that improve compliance, efficiency, and employee experience.

Benefits, Payroll & Cross-Functional Support

  • Partnering with Finance and Payroll and Benefits vendors to ensure accurate administration and issue resolution.
  • Supporting leave administration, wage and hour compliance, workplace postings, training tracking, and required notices.
  • Maintaining ERISA-compliant wrap documents, updating SPDs, and supporting Section 125 / POP administration with payroll.
  • Coordinating annual benefits changes, open enrollment timing, and related employee communications.

Safety, Accommodations & Multi-State Compliance

  • Maintaining a written injury, illness, and workplace safety program tailored to clinic and general staff environments.
  • Coordinating safety training, hazard assessments, inspections, and incident investigation protocols.
  • Owning the reasonable accommodation process and leading the interactive dialogue with employees, managers, and medical advisors.
  • Maintaining a master registry of state registrations, renewals, and required filings, including new-hire reporting and OSHA-related compliance items.

The Ideal Candidate Has

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in HR operations, HR compliance, people operations, or a generalist role with strong compliance ownership.
  • 3+ years experience managing HR policies, handbooks, audits, and employee records.
  • 3+ years experience with HRIS platforms, reporting, and process documentation.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment law and HR compliance requirements.
  • Multi-state compliance experience.
  • Comfort working independently and building processes from scratch.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with high attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in HR, Business, or a related field preferred. HR certification such as SHRM-CP or PHR is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

The People Operations & Compliance Manager position is full-time, with a salary range of $95Kโ€“$120K, depending on experience and qualifications.
