Job Duties

The Senate of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated, reliable, professional, and detail-oriented individual to fill a full-time position in the Committee Operations function of the Senate Clerk's Office. This position provides a diverse array of administrative support for standing committees and legislative study groups. Regular responsibilities include accurately recording and documenting actions and votes taken by committees, providing logistical support for meetings, and providing assistance and notification to legislative members, the general public, staff, and the press. This position will also have other responsibilities that arise to meet the needs of new circumstances, which will require flexibility and a can-do attitude.
This position requires some evening and weekend work, and some in-state travel.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate would:
Have the ability to multitask; work effectively on a team; have demonstrable
proficiency with Microsoft Office software; have a working knowledge of office procedures in a formally structured environment, as well as phone skills; and have the ability to lift and carry 30 pounds.

Additional Considerations

Experience with or knowledge of the legislative process is a plus. Relevant Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
The ability to demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills is an ideal qualification.
