Job description

Passionate about precision medicine and advancing the healthcare industry?
Recent advancements in underlying technology have finally made it possible for AI to impact clinical care in a meaningful way. Tempus' proprietary platform connects an entire ecosystem of real-world evidence to deliver real-time, actionable insights to physicians, providing critical information about the right treatments for the right patients, at the right time.
Tempus is seeking a highly motivated Strategy & Operations Associate to join our Clinical Data Abstraction team. This role will support operational execution and process improvement for a large-scale team responsible for transforming unstructured clinical information into high-quality structured data. The Associate will help manage recurring business processes, support reporting and planning cadences, and contribute to initiatives that improve workflow efficiency, scalability, and data quality. This role will also support the team's transition to AI-enabled abstraction by helping operationalize new workflows, understand how abstraction outputs support broader business needs, and identify opportunities to improve team operations through better tools, processes, and use of AI.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is analytical, organized, execution-oriented, and interested in helping shape the future of clinical data operations at the intersection of healthcare, data, and AI.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Initiatives
  • Support execution of operational initiatives across the Clinical Data Abstraction team, with a focus on workflow efficiency, reporting, and process consistency
  • Assist with testing, validation, and rollout support for new tools, workflows, and AI-enabled abstraction processes
  • Build understanding of the team's abstraction workflows, outputs, and downstream use cases in order to support operational improvements and effective cross-functional coordination
  • Help identify practical opportunities to use AI and workflow changes to improve quality, scalability, efficiency, and team effectiveness

Planning & Execution
  • Execute recurring operational workflows and help ensure key deliverables are completed accurately and on time
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual planning activities by preparing inputs, tracking action items, and monitoring progress against team priorities
  • Maintain trackers, documentation, and reporting tools that improve visibility into team performance, priorities, and execution progress

Data & Analysis
  • Gather, analyze, and summarize operational data to support KPI tracking, business reviews, and team planning
  • Prepare standard reports and initial analyses to identify trends, surface issues, and support decision-making
  • Maintain reporting tools that improve visibility into team performance

Stakeholder Management
  • Partner with stakeholders across operations, product, engineering, data, and business teams to support implementation of workflow improvements and operational tools
  • Develop presentations, summaries, and supporting materials for internal stakeholders and leadership updates

The successful candidate for this role will be:
  • Analytical and detail-oriented: You are comfortable working with data, building reports, and translating information into clear insights.
  • Execution-oriented: You are highly organized, reliable, and able to manage recurring processes and project tasks with accuracy and consistency.
  • Collaborative: You build strong working relationships with peers and cross-functional partners and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Adaptable: You are comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and can balance structured operational work with project-based support.
  • Proactive: You identify issues, flag risks early, and look for practical ways to improve how work gets done.
  • Interested in AI-enabled operations: You are excited by the opportunity to help a large-scale clinical data team transition to AI-enabled abstraction and are motivated by finding practical ways AI can improve workflows, quality, and scalability.
  • Curious and growth-minded: You ask thoughtful questions, seek feedback, and are excited to grow your scope and ownership over time.

Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience in operations, consulting, analytics, healthcare, life sciences, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities with high attention to detail and follow-through
  • Experience with project management and building operational playbooks
  • Experience working with data to generate business insights or support project implementation (experience with SQL queries is preferred)
  • Experience using AI tools, automation, or workflow technologies to improve processes, or strong interest in applying these tools to operational challenges
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate cross-functionally across multiple levels of an organization

In your first 30 days, you will:
  • Learn the Clinical Data Abstraction team's core workflows, reporting cadences, and key stakeholders
  • Build familiarity with current abstraction operations, including daily project ingestion and launches
  • Get up to speed on team priorities related to AI-enabled abstraction
  • Begin supporting recurring workflows, trackers, and reporting processes

In your first 60 days, you will:
  • Independently manage core recurring processes and planning support tasks
  • Contribute analyses and reporting that support team decision-making and performance visibility
  • Support cross-functional work tied to workflow improvements, tool updates, or AI-enabled abstraction efforts
  • Identify initial opportunities to improve documentation, tracking, or process consistency

In your first 90 days, you will:
  • Reliably own day-to-day operational workflows within your scope
  • Contribute meaningfully to planning, reporting, and execution across team priorities
  • Help support implementation of workflow or tooling improvements tied to AI-enabled abstraction
