Job description

Overview

Responsible for the first-line direction of employees involved in the external procurement of raw materials, parts, supplies and services at minimum cost, and ensures consistency with delivery requirements and quality specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides oversight for all activities necessary in the acquisition of materials and commodities to support company operations.
  • Assures that established policies and procedures are being followed, negotiates and reviews contracts and agreements with suppliers, and monitors market conditions and trends of materials and merchandise purchased by the company.
  • Supervises departmental staff by managing and coordinating activities of buyers and support staff engaged in the planning, production requirements, and acquisition/distribution of materials to support operations.
  • Assists with work prioritization, conducts annual performance appraisals, and develops training and development plans for staff.
  • Establishes and maintains good business relationships with suppliers, manages and monitors supplier performance and quality control activities, and develops/directs plans for improving supplier performance.
  • Manages and provides oversight of supplier qualification and selection.
  • Develops and directs plans for continuous operational improvement within the department.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or a related field, preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in procurement and demonstrated ability/experience to successfully direct and lead others.
  • Knowledge of MRP/ERP systems and global sourcing preferred.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to a wide variety of organizational members.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
