Job Summary

The Stockbridge School of Agriculture invites applications for a Lecturer in Horticulture and Online Program Coordinator. This 12-month position is split 50% teaching and 50% online program management and advising.
We seek an outstanding and passionate candidate with strong leadership, facilitation, advising, and teaching skills, and demonstrated experience in program development and management. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with faculty to strengthen SSA's national and international reputation in online education, promote academic programs within UMass and at professional conferences, and remain current on best practices in horticulture and online learning.

Essential Functions

This lecturer will teach undergraduate horticulture courses (e.g., plant propagation) and advise online students, including working adults who may require occasional evening or weekend meetings.
The position also provides leadership for SSA's online programs, including the Certificates in Horticulture and Sustainable Food & Farming, the AS degrees in Horticulture and Sustainable Food & Farming, and the BS in Sustainable Food & Farming.
Online Program Coordinator:
Oversee all online course offerings for SSA.
Program development, course scheduling, supporting and managing online instructors, monitoring course evaluations, maintaining web content and mailing lists, and collaborating with University Relations and University Without Walls on marketing, recruitment, and enrollment growth.

Other Functions

Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, equality and inclusiveness.
Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean's strategic priorities.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in horticulture, plant science or a closely related field (required by the appointment start date).
Demonstrated experience in teaching, preferably including online instruction.
Experience in program coordination or academic program management.
Evidence of leadership in horticulture and strong skills in teaching, presenting, or communicating technical information.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently, lead teams, and collaborate effectively.
Demonstrated entrepreneurship and creativity in program development or academic innovation.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, adapt to shifting schedules, and support a diverse population of working adult learners.
Ability to develop and implement new programs, create syllabi, and design new courses in an academic setting.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an indoor university environment and involves lifting and transporting materials or equipment and general physical activity, including prolonged standing, walking, or assuming low postures.

Work Schedule and Work Arrangement

Monday - Friday, 40 hours a week, 12 months a year.

Salary Information

It is expected that the salary range for this position is between $65,500 and $95,000.
Please note:
The low-end of the pay range in all faculty searches at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is the minimum salary for the rank included in the collective bargaining agreement between the University and the Massachusetts Society of Professors, UMass Amherst/MTA/NEA.
The high-end of the pay range reflects an increase above the median of salaries at this rank within the department for faculty who may have multiple years of faculty experience.
The specific pay for this position will be determined by the University based on consideration of all relevant factors when and if it decides to extend and offer of employment.
