Data Conversion Lead

This is a Data Conversion Lead position for Miami Dade County and they currently use PeopleSoft. This would be a hybrid role, but the resource needs to be open to working in the South Florida area. Here is the description of requested skills:

MINIMUM SKILLS REQUIRED: This is a Data Conversion Lead position in a large, complex local government organization. This position is within the Information Technology Department for the purpose of assisting in implementing a complex, large scale application. The candidate will work alongside a diverse team of analysts supporting various County Departments on the implementation of a third-party vendor system. The candidates' work will focus on the large-scale export, validation, and conversion of data from several legacy County information systems and working with the vendor to prepare for migration into the vendor's solution. This will include organization, planning, execution, and monitoring of data conversion related work, and closely liaising with both the County and vendor teams. While the position is primarily remote, candidate must be resident of South Florida as the project will require on-site work in Miami, FL. Experience with the following is required:

  • End-to-end hands-on experience with large scale data migrations / ETL processes from legacy to modern systems, including design, data mapping, development, validation, and implementation.
  • Working with complex IT software projects in a large organization using Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong technical background of database management, development, and migration including SQL server, SSIS, SQL, Stored Procedures.
  • Experience with Excel, as well as ETL tools and techniques.
  • Attention to detail, proficiency in both written and verbal communications.

Experience with the following is desired:

  • Mainframe applications development and support, including Integrated Database Management System (IDMS) databases, and COBOL including batch and online development.

Work duties may include:

  • Ownership and management of data conversion and migration tasks for several source applications being consolidated to a singular target system, working in close coordination with various County and vendor subject matter experts and technical teams
  • Leads design and planning activities, working with various stakeholders to gather and document requirements, and create and document an overall data migration strategy to extract and prepare County data to be imported to the vendor system.
  • Investigates the functionality and data structures of source systems in order to successfully identify needed data mapping tasks requirements.
  • Ensure data quality throughout the data migration process through design and implementation of data cleansing and standardization strategies.
  • Leading the implementation and execution of data migration processes throughout the project to support development, testing, and production deployment phases.
  • Lead data conversion testing and validation activities and acceptance, working with both business customers and technical teams to identify and resolve issues.
  • Working closely with the project management team to communicate progress, issues, and risks to the customer.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree. Eight years of experience in data migration and conversion, or related tasks, are required. Additional related work experience in software development/implementation may substitute for the required college education on a year-for-year basis.
