Job Summary:
The Lead Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care and support to individuals served using a person-centered approach while serving as a lead resource for daily operations within the home. This role supports and mentors DSP staff, assists with training and scheduling needs, and serves as a communication link between direct care staff and leadership. The Lead DSP promotes consistent, high-quality care while supporting the mission and Christian values of the Ministry.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct care and support to individuals served, including personal care, activities of daily living, and active treatment programming.
  • Assist nursing staff with medical care needs, including medication administration, health monitoring, and reporting changes in condition.
  • Implement and support person-centered plans and active treatment programs in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensure completion, accuracy, and timeliness of all required documentation related to individual care and services.
  • Foster a positive, supportive environment that empowers individuals to build relationships, pursue goals, and live meaningful lives.
  • Support individuals with internal and community-based activities, appointments, and transportation.
  • Serve as a peer mentor and primary trainer for newly hired DSPs, coordinating training activities and communicating progress to leadership.
  • Monitor daily staff duties, assignments, rounds, and household checklists; communicate concerns or barriers to the QIDP.
  • Assist with managing staff call-offs, scheduling coverage, and supporting daily household operations, including grocery ordering.
  • Participate in compliance activities, regulatory surveys, safety procedures, infection control practices, Individuals' Rights requirements, and emergency drills.
  • Attend required in-services, meetings, committees, special projects, and participate in on-call coverage as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support individuals served, staff, and Ministry operations.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Prior experience in the developmental disability field or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support direct care staff.
  • CPR, First Aid, and Medication Administration certifications required within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record and reliable transportation.
  • Demonstrated Christian background and ability to support the mission and values of the Ministry.

Work Conditions:
  • Work is primarily performed in a residential or facility setting with exposure to indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Schedule may include any shift, weekends, and holidays; extended hours may be required during emergencies or staffing shortages.
  • Mandation and participation in an on-call rotation may be required.
  • Occasional overnight stays may be required for individual activities, training, or seminars.
  • Position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, quick response in emergencies, and the ability to independently lift up to 45 pounds.
