Radiographer
Works in accordance with written Quality Control technical procedures, manufacturing processing instructions, and verbal instructions provided by immediate supervisor. Does incidental grinding & polishing as required. Other job duties included, but not limited to:
- Evaluates test results and makes accept/reject decisions in accordance with procedure criteria and provides written documentation, as required.
- Using solvent to remove grease, oil, tape, tape residue, dirt, etc.
- Identifies defects, removes defects when directed using proper hand tools, prepares resultant cavities suitably for welding, charts general locations of defective areas
- Removing excess penetrant using shop towels or paper towels.
- Perform all associated activities which are related to making acceptable radiographs to various codes, specifications and procedures.
- Cleans product to be tested and assists UT Technician to check for unacceptable surface conditions.
- Perform these activities safely in accordance with the policies established and approved by the Company, State and Federal Government.
- Performs all associated activities which are related to handling and processing film through the darkroom.
Basic Liquid Penetrant Inspection Process:
- Prepares surfaces as required by grinding to remove paints, scale, weld spatter, and other surface irregularities; uses solvent to remove grease, oil, tape, tape residue, dirt, etc.
- Applies penetrant using proper applicators.
- Removes excess penetrant using shop towels, paper towels, water and or emulsifier.
- Applies developer using proper applicators.
- Evaluates test results using proper lighting.
- Removes penetrant materials and cleans surfaces upon completion of testing, using proper solvents, towels/cloths.
Basic Magnetic Particle Inspection Process:
- Prepares surfaces as required by grinding to remove paint, scale, weld spatter, and other surface irregularities, uses solvents to remove, grease, oil, tape, tape residue, paint, dirt, etc.
- Performs required AC/DC dry or wet test technique using proper equipment and accessories.
- Evaluates test results using proper lighting.
- Demagnetizes parts if required.
- Cleans surfaces upon completion of testing to remove particles using compressed air, shop towels or solvents.
- Grinds and verifies the removal of prod mark.
Special Requirements:
- Must pass Quality Control tests consisting of written and practical examinations.
- Attends in-plant training classes as required.
- Subject to medical examinations and eye examinations as required.
- Must pass a UT test limited to the elements of contact scanning with a UT transducer.
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalency (will be verified), coupled with an Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety (IRRSP) Certified, or equivalent State Card.
- Completed a Radiation Safety (40 Hour) Training Course.
- Ability to work ANY SHIFT.
- US citizen.
- Pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check prior to hire date.
- Pass testing and become qualified to BWXT's Radiographer requirements (once hired).
- Communicate effectively with co-workers and have the willingness to take direction from shop foremen and supervisors.
- Prior experience in a close-tolerance manufacturing/fabrication environment is highly preferred.
