What are ASNT Level II inspectors?

ASNT Level II inspectors are professionals certified by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) to perform and supervise nondestructive testing (NDT) methods. They are qualified to set up and calibrate equipment, conduct inspections, interpret and evaluate results, and supervise Level I personnel. ASNT Level II certification demonstrates advanced knowledge and hands-on experience in specific NDT methods, ensuring high standards of safety and quality in industries such as manufacturing, construction, and aerospace.

How much do level 2 NDT techs make?

Level 2 NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) technicians typically earn between $60,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on experience, industry, and location. Certification, such as ASNT Level II, and proficiency with testing methods like ultrasonic or radiographic testing can influence salary levels.

What is the highest paying NDT job?

The highest paying NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) jobs are often senior-level roles such as NDT Level III or specialized inspector positions in industries like aerospace, oil and gas, or nuclear power. These roles typically require advanced certifications, extensive experience, and expertise in techniques like ultrasonic, radiographic, or phased array testing, leading to higher salaries compared to entry-level positions.

What types of non-destructive testing methods are commonly performed by an ASNT Level II, and how does the role typically interact with other team members during inspections?

ASNT Level II professionals frequently perform non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, radiographic, and eddy current testing, depending on their area of certification. In their daily duties, they are responsible for setting up and calibrating equipment, conducting tests, interpreting results, and documenting findings. Collaboration is key, as they often work closely with Level I technicians, engineers, and quality assurance teams to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards. Level II personnel also play a supervisory role, providing guidance and technical support to less experienced staff.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ASNT Level II, and why are they important?

To thrive as an ASNT Level II, you need a solid understanding of non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, industry standards, and a valid ASNT Level II certification. Familiarity with NDT equipment, inspection techniques, and reporting software is typically required. Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and effective communication make candidates stand out in this position. These skills and qualifications are crucial to ensure accurate inspection results, safety compliance, and clear documentation in testing environments.

Is NDT level 2 a good career choice?

NDT Level 2 is a recognized certification for nondestructive testing technicians, allowing them to interpret test results and supervise Level 1 personnel. It offers opportunities in industries such as aerospace, oil and gas, and manufacturing, with potential for career advancement and increased earning potential. Success in this field depends on experience, ongoing training, and proficiency with testing methods like ultrasonic, radiographic, or magnetic particle testing.

What is the difference between Asnt Level II vs NDT Technician?

What are the career paths after NDT Level 2?

After achieving NDT Level 2, professionals can advance to NDT Level 3, which involves overseeing inspection programs and certifying technicians. They may also specialize in specific methods such as ultrasonic, radiographic, or magnetic particle testing, or move into quality assurance, inspection management, or training roles within the industry.
