Job description

Position: Fleet Technician
Status: Full time, permanent
Location: Ohio History Center, Columbus, OH
Compensation: $20-22/hour plus full benefits package
Summary:
Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the equipment and vehicle fleet of of the Ohio History Connection. Leads the grounds crew in outdoor maintenance and winter weather maintenance at the Ohio History Center, Ohio Village & Warehouses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for keeping track of vehicle fleet and equipment needs related to new or replacement purchases, vehicle registration and renewal, and monthly reports for the automotive usage and maintenance.
  • Responsible for purchasing supplies, parts, and chemicals for the automotive shop.
  • Maintain vehicle and equipment fleet, including emergency services, preventative maintenance, basic mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting and cleaning of vehicles.
  • Assists Sites Maintenance crew as needed, primarily around Central Ohio site locations.
  • Consults with Historic Sites & Museums to advise on equipment purchases and maintenance as needed.

Required Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma required. Four years of fleet management and automotive repair, maintenance related work required.

Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Understand and explain oral and written instruction.
  • Basic measuring skills
  • Knowledge and skills with commercial groundskeeping equipment use and repair.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite programs
  • Knowledge of standard automotive repairs using typical tools of the trade.
  • Knowledgeable about mixing, handling, and applying agricultural chemicals. Familiarity with MSD sheets.

Required Competencies:
  • Valid Ohio Driver's license
  • Ohio Commercial Applications Licenses, preferred, but can be obtained upon hiring.

Physical Demands:
Requires frequent walking, bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, digging, sitting or standing on equipment, climbing ladder and aerial work. Requires frequent lifting up to 75 pounds. Requires full range of hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate tools. Requires typical eyesight and hearing abilities.
