About the Role:

This is a full-time position of Monday - Thursday. Enjoy a predictable schedule with NO WEEKENDS!

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Dental Assistant from an accredited program.
  • Completion of an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) training program.
  • Valid state license or registration to perform expanded functions as required by the state of MO.
  • Must have at least one of the following licenses: Fixed/Removable/Restorative I/Restorative II
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a dental office or clinical setting.
  • Familiarity with dental practice management software.
  • Additional certifications such as Radiology Certification or Infection Control Certification.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a dental team.
  • Continuing education in dental assisting or related fields.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures by preparing and passing instruments and materials.
  • Perform expanded functions such as placing and carving restorations, applying sealants and fluoride, and other duties as allowed by MO state law.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments to maintain infection control standards.
  • Manage patient records, update charts, and document treatment information accurately.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and post-operative care instructions.
  • Coordinate with dental team members to ensure efficient workflow and patient scheduling.
  • Maintain inventory of dental supplies and order materials as needed.

Skills:

The Expanded Functions Dental Assistant utilizes clinical skills daily to assist dentists efficiently during procedures, ensuring instruments and materials are prepared and handled correctly. Knowledge of infection control and sterilization techniques is applied rigorously to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff. Communication skills are essential for educating patients on oral health and for coordinating with the dental team to optimize patient care and office workflow. Technical skills, including proficiency with dental software and radiology equipment, enhance the assistant's ability to manage patient records and perform diagnostic tasks. Additionally, problem-solving and organizational skills are used to manage inventory and adapt to the dynamic needs of a busy dental practice.
