What is offshore accounting?

An offshore accounting job involves handling financial tasks such as bookkeeping, tax preparation, payroll, and financial reporting for companies from a remote location, typically in another country. Businesses outsource these tasks to offshore accounting professionals or firms to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and access specialized expertise. Offshore accountants work with international accounting standards and use cloud-based tools to collaborate with clients. This role requires strong financial knowledge, proficiency in accounting software, and adherence to regulatory compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed for offshore accounting?

To thrive in Offshore Accounting, strong knowledge of international accounting standards, tax compliance, and financial analysis are essential, typically backed by a degree in accounting or finance. Familiarity with ERP systems, cloud accounting software, and often certifications like CPA or ACCA are highly valued. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work across cross-cultural teams distinguish high performers in this role. These abilities ensure accurate financial management, regulatory compliance, and smooth collaboration between global offices and clients.

What are the typical challenges faced by professionals working in offshore accounting?

Professionals in offshore accounting roles often encounter challenges such as managing different time zones, navigating diverse international regulations, and adapting to varying client requirements. Coordination with onshore teams and clients may require flexible working hours and strong communication skills to ensure seamless workflow. Additionally, keeping up with changes in tax laws and accounting standards across multiple jurisdictions is essential. However, these challenges also provide valuable learning opportunities and can accelerate career growth by building expertise in global finance and cross-border collaboration.

Are offshore accounting jobs being offshored?

Offshore accounting jobs are often offshored to countries with lower labor costs, but many companies also maintain in-house teams or outsource specific tasks to specialized firms. The trend depends on the company's needs, technology adoption, and the complexity of accounting functions, with roles involving software like QuickBooks or SAP remaining in demand globally.

Job description

The Role:
Taltran Global has been exclusively retained by a well-funded commercial landscaping and services platform to recruit an Accounting Manager. The company is an expansion phase, having grown both organically and through M&A, doubling in size over the past year. The business is expected to surpass $100M in revenue by year-end, with additional acquisitions in the pipeline. As the company continues to scale, it is building a more robust centralized accounting infrastructure to support continued M&A and operational growth.

The Accounting Manager will work closely with the CFO and VP Finance and will play a critical role across month-end close, accounting operations, accounts payable, treasury, audit, and acquisition integration. This is not a narrowly defined accounting role focused solely on the month-end close. The company operates with a hybrid onshore/offshore accounting model, with an offshore team responsible for much of the accounting preparation and close process. This individual will provide oversight, review, and leadership to those resources while taking ownership of key accounting and operational responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will be an ambitious, hands-on accounting professional who is comfortable wearing multiple hats and operating in a fast-growing, acquisitive environment. Strong AP and treasury experience is particularly important, as the role will help address current payment and vendor-management challenges while taking responsibility for cash and payment operations. As the platform continues to acquire businesses, this person will also gain meaningful exposure to acquisition integration, including opening balance sheets, purchase price accounting, ERP transitions, and standardizing accounting processes across newly acquired companies.

Key Responsibilities:
The Accounting Manager will oversee accounting operations, AP, treasury, month-end close, and acquisition-related accounting activities across the organization, including but not limited to:

· Oversee and review the month-end close process across multiple entities, including account reconciliations, journal entries, financial schedules, and consolidated reporting, while leveraging the offshore accounting team for preparation

· Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to onshore and offshore accounting resources, ensuring accounting responsibilities are completed accurately and on schedule

· Take ownership of accounts payable operations, including invoice processing, vendor payments, payment timing, vendor management, and resolving issues that impact the company's relationships with suppliers

· Manage and support treasury operations, including cash and liquidity management, banking relationships, payment disbursements, and related reconciliations and reporting

· Support internal and external audits by preparing and reviewing schedules, coordinating documentation, and serving as a knowledgeable accounting resource for auditors and their questions

· Help standardize accounting processes across acquired businesses, including transitioning smaller, founder-led companies toward a more structured accrual-based accounting environment

· Support post-acquisition accounting integration, including reviewing opening balance sheets, understanding purchase price accounting, goodwill and amortization, fixed assets, and ensuring acquisition-related entries are properly reflected in the company's accounting records

· Support the company's ongoing NetSuite implementation, including helping transition acquired entities onto the centralized ERP and ensuring accounting data and processes are properly established

· Partner closely with the CFO and VP Finance on strategic accounting initiatives, process improvements, M&A activity, and other projects as the company continues to scale

Qualifications and Experience:

· 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within an industry environment with responsibility for accounting operations, AP, treasury, and/or month-end close

· Strong experience with accounts payable and treasury operations, including vendor payments, cash management, banking relationships, and payment processes

· Demonstrated experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and reviewing accounting work across multiple entities

· Strong understanding of GAAP and the ability to identify and resolve accounting issues across a multi-entity environment

· Experience working with an offshore accounting team or other distributed accounting resources is preferred

· Experience with NetSuite or another major ERP system is preferred, particularly in the context of an ERP implementation or systems transition
