What is remote offshore accounting?

Remote offshore accounting refers to outsourcing accounting tasks to professionals or firms located in another country, who work remotely using digital tools. This practice allows businesses to access skilled accountants at a lower cost, often due to wage differences between countries. Companies use secure cloud-based accounting software to collaborate with offshore teams, ensuring data integrity and compliance with relevant regulations. Remote offshore accounting can include services such as bookkeeping, tax preparation, payroll, and financial reporting.

How do remote offshore accounting professionals typically collaborate with onshore teams to ensure seamless financial operations?

Remote offshore accounting professionals usually work closely with onshore teams through regular virtual meetings, cloud-based accounting platforms, and shared documentation systems. Effective communication and timely updates are essential to address time zone differences and maintain alignment on financial reporting, compliance, and deadlines. Many firms establish clear workflows and use project management tools to facilitate collaboration, ensuring that offshore accountants can integrate smoothly into daily operations and contribute to accurate, timely financial outcomes.

How much do offshore accountants make?

Offshore accountants typically earn between $20,000 and $60,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of tasks. Many work remotely, utilizing accounting software and certifications like CPA or ACCA to enhance their earning potential.

How to make 80000 a year working from home?

Remote offshore accounting professionals can earn $80,000 or more annually by gaining specialized skills in areas like tax, audit, or financial analysis, obtaining relevant certifications, and working for companies that offer competitive pay for remote roles. Building experience, demonstrating accuracy, and using accounting software such as QuickBooks or Xero can also increase earning potential. Consistent performance and expanding client or employer relationships are key to reaching higher income levels remotely.

Can you work fully remote as an accountant?

Remote offshore accounting roles often allow accountants to work fully remotely, leveraging cloud-based accounting software and communication tools. However, some positions may require occasional in-person meetings or adherence to specific time zones, depending on client or company policies.

Can you make $500,000 a year as an accountant?

Remote offshore accountants can potentially earn high salaries, especially with specialized skills, certifications, and experience in areas like auditing or financial management. However, reaching a $500,000 annual income is uncommon and typically requires senior roles, large client portfolios, or working in high-demand niches. Most accountants earn significantly less, with top earners often supplementing their income through consulting or additional services.

Job description

Controller: Multifamily Property Accounting

Location: New York City (In-Office 4–5 Days/Week)

Compensation: $150,000 – $200,000 Base + Bonus

Our SelectLeaders client is a vertically integrated real estate investment and services firm headquartered in New York City. The company has built a multi-dimensional platform spanning property management, construction management, acquisitions, lending, and proprietary data analytics, in the NYC multifamily market.

With a portfolio of more than 50 multifamily buildings and plans to add 250+ additional units this year, the firm partners with major institutional investors to support a portfolio that includes units ranging from luxury Class A to affordable, and rent-stabilized buildings throughout New York City.

They are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations for its growing portfolio. This role is ideal for a hands-on operational accounting leader with deep multifamily experience, strong Yardi expertise, and a proven ability to manage remote and offshore accounting teams in a high-growth environment.

The Controller will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of accounting processes. The ideal candidate brings 10–15 years of multifamily accounting experience and has the operational mindset to identify process improvements while maintaining strict financial reporting deadlines.

Responsibilities
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple multifamily properties and entities

  • Review, approve, and independently sign off on property-level financial statements in accordance with GAAP

  • Oversee financial reporting timelines, including delivery of 40+ monthly financial packages by established deadlines

  • Quickly identify and resolve discrepancies within property financials and reporting packages

  • Oversee reconciliations including bank accounts, security deposits, taxes, and intercompany accounts

  • Oversee A/P, A/R, cash management, and treasury-related processes

  • Coordinate audits, tax filings, and lender reporting requirements

  • Manage and mentor a team of remote/offshore property accountants and accounting support staff

  • Help scale accounting operations and improve workflows as the portfolio continues to grow

  • Drive operational efficiencies, process improvements, and strengthened internal controls

  • Assist with onboarding newly acquired assets, including opening balance sheets, establishing accruals, coordinating bank account setup and treasury functions, and transitioning assets to assigned property accountants

  • Partner with Asset Management teams on variance analysis and NOI drivers

  • Participate in bi-weekly client and ownership update calls to address financial and operational matters

  • Build and enhance financial reporting and analysis tools utilizing advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Serve as the system lead and subject matter expert for Yardi

  • Oversee preparation and review of NYC regulatory filings, including TC (Tax Commission / certiorari support), RPIE (Real Property Income & Expense filings), and independently review and sign off on RPIE filings

Qualifications
  • 8+ years of accounting experience within real estate accounting

  • Strong multifamily property accounting experience

  • CPA Designation Preferred

  • Experience overseeing large portfolios and multiple entities/assets simultaneously

  • Experience managing remote and/or offshore accounting teams

  • Advanced proficiency in Yardi and Microsoft Excel

  • Deep understanding of accrual accounting and property-level financial reporting

  • Experience with NYC regulatory filings including TC and RPIE

  • Strong organizational, communication, and deadline management skills

  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

What Success Looks Like
  • Financial reporting deadlines are consistently met with accuracy

  • Newly onboarded assets are transitioned smoothly and efficiently

  • Offshore accounting workflows operate effectively and scale successfully

  • Financial reporting quality and internal controls continue to improve as the portfolio grows

  • Accounting operations evolve to support a centralized platform managing 2,000+ units

Base Salary: $150,000 – $200,000 + Bonus
