Are accounting jobs being offshored?

Offshoring of accounting jobs has increased in recent years as companies seek cost savings and access to global talent, especially for tasks like bookkeeping, payroll, and tax preparation. However, many accounting roles that require local knowledge, regulatory compliance, or client interaction remain primarily onshore. Professionals with skills in accounting software, auditing, and financial analysis continue to find opportunities both locally and internationally.

What is an offshore accountant?

An offshore accountant is a finance professional who provides accounting services remotely from a different country than their client, often to reduce costs or access specialized expertise. They typically use accounting software and adhere to international or local financial regulations. Offshore accountants may work for companies, accounting firms, or as independent contractors, often requiring strong communication skills and relevant certifications.

Can you make $500,000 a year as an accountant?

Offshore accountants with extensive experience, specialized skills, and senior roles such as CFO or partner can potentially earn $500,000 or more annually. Achieving this level typically requires advanced certifications, a strong client base, and working in high-demand or lucrative markets. Most entry- and mid-level accounting positions do not reach this income level.

What are the typical challenges faced by professionals working in offshore accounting roles?

Professionals in offshore accounting roles often encounter challenges such as managing different time zones, navigating diverse international regulations, and adapting to varying client requirements. Coordination with onshore teams and clients may require flexible working hours and strong communication skills to ensure seamless workflow. Additionally, keeping up with changes in tax laws and accounting standards across multiple jurisdictions is essential. However, these challenges also provide valuable learning opportunities and can accelerate career growth by building expertise in global finance and cross-border collaboration.

How much do offshore accountants make?

Offshore accountants typically earn between $30,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of tasks. Many offshore accounting roles require proficiency in accounting software and certifications such as CPA or ACCA.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Offshore Accounting position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Offshore Accounting, strong knowledge of international accounting standards, tax compliance, and financial analysis are essential, typically backed by a degree in accounting or finance. Familiarity with ERP systems, cloud accounting software, and often certifications like CPA or ACCA are highly valued. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work across cross-cultural teams distinguish high performers in this role. These abilities ensure accurate financial management, regulatory compliance, and smooth collaboration between global offices and clients.

What is an Offshore Accounting job?

An offshore accounting job involves handling financial tasks such as bookkeeping, tax preparation, payroll, and financial reporting for companies from a remote location, typically in another country. Businesses outsource these tasks to offshore accounting professionals or firms to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and access specialized expertise. Offshore accountants work with international accounting standards and use cloud-based tools to collaborate with clients. This role requires strong financial knowledge, proficiency in accounting software, and adherence to regulatory compliance.

Job description

Senior Accounting Manager

Remote | Full-Time | $90K-$120K Total Compensation

About the Role

Value Fusion is hiring a Senior Accounting Manager to lead accounting delivery across our client accounting services practice. We serve ABA therapy businesses exclusively, a fast-growing, fragmented industry where clean financials and reliable reporting directly impact our clients' ability to grow and make good decisions.

You'll own the quality, timeliness, and efficiency of accounting work product across our client portfolio, managing a blended team of onshore and offshore accountants and building the systems and processes that let us scale. Our advisory function is handled separately by industry specialists, so this role is focused entirely on delivery: making sure every close is accurate, every engagement runs smoothly, and the team gets better every month.

This is a building role, not a maintenance role. We're early enough that you'll shape how the operation works, and established enough that you'll have real clients, real revenue, and a team to lead from day one. As the practice grows, this role grows with it.

What You'll Do
  • Own the monthly close process across all client engagements, setting and maintaining standards for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
  • Manage and develop a blended team of onshore and offshore accountants/bookkeepers (currently 4, scaling to +7 as the portfolio grows)
  • Build and refine standard operating procedures for bookkeeping, reconciliation, month-end close, year-end prep, and client onboarding
  • Review work product across the portfolio and coach the team on quality, efficiency, and professional development
  • Lead accounting operations for new client onboarding: cleanup, migration, QBO setup, chart of accounts standardization
  • Oversee year-end financial statement preparation and coordinate tax prep handoffs
  • Identify and eliminate bottlenecks across tools, workflows, and team structure
  • Track and report on delivery metrics: close timelines, error rates, team capacity, and process maturity
What You Need

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent)
  • 5+ years in public accounting or client accounting services, with at least 2 years managing staff in a multi-client environment
  • Direct experience in a CAS, outsourced accounting, or firm-based client services practice
  • Track record building or improving accounting delivery workflows at scale
  • Strong experience standardizing messy books into reliable, audit-ready financials
  • Experience managing offshore team members
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel

Preferred:

  • CPA or EA designation
  • Double/Keeper (or similar PMS) experience
  • Tax preparation experience
  • Healthcare or ABA industry experience (training provided)
What Success Looks Like
  • First 30 days: You've assessed the current state of every client engagement, identified the biggest quality and efficiency gaps, and started building the SOPs that will become the backbone of our delivery operation.
  • First 90 days: The team is executing against documented standards. Monthly closes are consistently on time and accurate. You've onboarded at least one new client without it creating chaos.
  • First 6 months: You've built a scalable delivery operation. The team has grown, processes are mature, and you can confidently absorb new clients without sacrificing quality.
Compensation & Benefits
  • $90K-$120K total compensation (base salary + performance bonus tied to delivery quality and operational metrics)
  • Fully remote with flexible hours
  • Direct leadership role with clear growth path as the practice scales
About Value Fusion

We provide client accounting services, financial advisory, leadership coaching, and M&A advisory tailored to ABA practices. 1. Submit your resume and a brief cover letter telling us about a delivery operation you built or improved

  3. Skills and scenario assessment
  4. Final interview with leadership and offer
Employment Type: FULL_TIME
