What is an office position?

Office positions refer to a variety of roles within an organization that are typically based in an office environment. These jobs can include administrative assistants, office managers, receptionists, data entry clerks, and other support staff who handle tasks such as scheduling, communication, filing, and organization. Office positions are essential for keeping business operations running smoothly by providing administrative and clerical support. Each position may have different responsibilities, but all contribute to the efficient functioning of the workplace.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an office position?

To thrive in an office position, you need strong organizational skills, proficiency in basic computer applications (such as word processing and spreadsheets), and at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with office management software like Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace is typically required. Effective communication, attention to detail, and teamwork are critical soft skills that set candidates apart. These abilities ensure efficient workflow, accurate information handling, and a positive, productive office environment.

Job description

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer and CMTS - Exadata
Location: In-office position in Redwood City, CA
We are looking for smart systems software engineers with BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related fields to join the Exadata Team @ Oracle Server Technologies (https://www.oracle.com/engineered-systems/exadata/). Oracle Exadata technology is the newest innovation in Oracle's history as the provider of the industry's number one database technology. Exadata group (Server Technologies Division) is responsible for the development of all aspects of the Exadata Storage Server and Exadata Database Machine which is named as Oracle's most successful new product.
Team and Product Description:
Oracle Exadata is an enterprise database platform that runs Oracle AI Database workloads of any scale and criticality with high performance, availability, and security. Exadata's scale-out design employs unique optimizations that let transaction processing, analytics, agentic AI, and mixed workloads run faster and more efficiently. Consolidating diverse Oracle AI Database workloads on Exadata platforms in enterprise data centers, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and multicloud environments helps organizations increase operational efficiency, reduce IT administration, and lower costs.
Oracle Exadata technology is the newest innovation in Oracle's history as the provider of the industry's number one database technology. Exadata group (Server Technologies Division) is responsible for the development of all aspects of the Exadata Storage Server and Exadata Database Machine which is named as one of Oracle's most successful new products. That makes this role especially relevant for engineers with strong systems depth across networking stacks, low-latency communication, and large-scale clustered infrastructure. As Exadata continues to evolve, high performance networking plays a critical role in enabling low-latency, high-throughput communication across database and storage infrastructure.
Description of the Role:

  • Develop and optimize software for distributed communication across database and storage nodes using technologies such as RDMA/RoCE and related high speed interconnects.
  • Work across networking, storage, and compute boundaries to improve end-to-end system performance
  • Develop parallel algorithms and distributed systems software that runs on a large-scale database and storage cluster
  • Analyze, debug, and resolve complex performance bottlenecks and systems issues across the software and hardware stack
  • Contribute to multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative, and rapidly evolving engineering environment

What we're looking for
  • Expertise in systems programming, with Rust strongly preferred; C/C++ experience is also welcome.
  • Strong fundamentals across CPU architecture, networking, and storage systems.
  • Strong understanding of networking, cloud networking, and switch behavior in high-performance distributed environments.
  • Engineers who can reason across the stack, from software architecture and protocol behavior to network performance and failure handling.
  • Critical thinkers who do not wait to be told what to do next and who proactively identify issues, opportunities, and technical risks.
  • Engineers who take ownership and drive problems through to resolution.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for complex systems problems in distributed and performance-sensitive environments.
  • Enthusiasm for or strong experience building large-scale distributed systems and fault-tolerant infrastructure.
