Location: onsite/in-office; Topeka, KS (with regular travel to Overland Park, KS)

Primary Accountability (Job Purpose):

The HR & Office Operations Manager serves as the primary resource for employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, performance support, and employee engagement initiatives. The role also oversees key administrative and office operations functions to support a productive, professional workplace.

Essential Functions:

Human Resources & Employee Relations (70% of role):

  • Serves as the primary HR contact for attorneys and staff.
  • Leads recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding processes.
  • Manages employee relations matters and provides guidance on workplace issues.
  • Administers employee benefits programs and coordinates with third-party providers.
  • Supports performance management and employee development initiatives.
  • Assists with compensation administration and annual review processes.
  • Maintains HR policies, employee handbook updates, and compliance records.
  • Coordinates employee engagement, recognition, wellness, and retention programs.
  • Oversees new hire orientation and training initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintains confidential personnel files and HR records.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Office Operations & Administration (30% of role)

  • Oversees day-to-day operations of the Topeka and Overland Park offices.
  • Manages office vendors, supplies, equipment, and facilities needs.
  • Coordinates support staff scheduling and workflow consistency.
  • Assists leadership with budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Manages insurance renewals and vendor agreements.
  • Supports special projects and operational initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of human resource management experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Experience in professional services or legal environments preferred.
  • Strong employee relations and benefits administration experience.
  • Experience recruiting and onboarding employees.
  • Knowledge of employment laws, HR practices, and workplace compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
  • Ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Ability to travel between the firm's Topeka and Overland Park offices as business needs require.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license for business travel between office locations.

Work Environment:

  • Professional and deadline-oriented environment in a legal office setting. The noise level is typically moderate.

Travel Requirements:
