About the Role

CareTalk Health is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our growing finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent accounting graduate or early-career professional looking to build a strong foundation in accounting and financial operations.

The Staff Accountant will work directly with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), assisting with daily accounting activities, month-end close processes, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and general ledger support. This role provides hands-on exposure to healthcare finance and accounting operations while offering mentorship from a CPA with extensive experience in public accounting, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions.

The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, eager to learn, and interested in pursuing a long-term career in accounting and finance.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM EST In Office at the Bethesda, MD location

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities

1) Daily Accounting Operations

  • Review and process daily financial transactions imported into QuickBooks Online (QBO)
  • Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, and properly categorized
  • Assist with maintaining organized financial documentation and records

2) Cash Management & Deposits

  • Scan and deposit paper checks received in the office
  • Verify deposit accuracy and maintain supporting documentation
  • Assist with cash receipt tracking and reconciliation

3) General Ledger Support

  • Prepare and post journal entries in QuickBooks Online
  • Assist with maintaining the integrity of the general ledger
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities

4) Account Reconciliations

  • Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts using QuickBooks Online
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Maintain supporting schedules and reconciliation documentation

5) Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Maintain Excel-based schedules supporting general ledger activity, including prepaid expense amortization schedules and other accounting support files
  • Generate recurring financial and operational reports from QuickBooks Online
  • Assist with financial analysis and reporting requests as assigned

6) Process Improvement & Team Support

  • Support continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls
  • Collaborate with finance leadership on special projects
  • Assist with additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • No current experience necessary. This can be a first job.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting concepts
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including working with large datasets and multiple data sources
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in pursuing CPA certification within the next 1–3 years

Preferred

  • Internship, academic project, or professional experience in accounting, finance, or bookkeeping
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Enterprise
  • Experience with account reconciliations and journal entries
  • Exposure to financial reporting or month-end close activities
  • Prior healthcare or professional services industry experience

Technical Requirements:

· Computer: Windows or Apple Computer ONLY (NO Chromebooks, Linux Machines, or Smartphones) Must have at least Windows 10 or MacOS 13.

· Headphones: Wired headphones required for optimal audio quality. 

· Internet Speed: Meet minimum internet speed requirements (50 MBPS download speed and 20 MBPS upload speed), with a wired connection to the router. Must have an ethernet cable connecting computer directly into router

· Browser and System: Use Google Chrome with Amazon Workspaces (regardless of computer type).  

· Video Capability Required: Required for video calls. (Webcam) Laptops will come with a built in webcam which is fine. If it doesn't you'll need to get one.

· Recommended Equipment: A second monitor is suggested for laptop users; dual monitors for PC users.
